St James Park Area - Prohibit All Vehicles From Proceeding
What is happening?
CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE (ST JAMES’ PARK AREA - MAGIC WEEKEND 2025) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 10 April 2025 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and has received consent from the Secretary of State for Transport to make such an Order.
2. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit all vehicles from proceeding on the following lengths of roads -
(a) Strawberry Place - between Barrack Road and St James’ Street
(b) Strawberry Lane - from Strawberry Place southwards for 20 metres
(c) Back St James Street - for its entire length
(d) Leazes Terrace - from its western junction with Terrace Place northwards then eastwards for 205 metres
(e) Terrace Place (St James Terrace) - between its western junction with Leazes Terrace and St James’ Street
(f) St James’ Street - for its entire length
(g) Strawberry Place - between St James’ Street and Leazes Park Road
(h) Terrace Place - between St James’ Street and its eastern Junction with Leazes Terrace.
3. The alternative route for vehicles will be via the existing highway network.
4. The Order is required to facilitate the “Magic Weekend 2025” (“the Event”), to enable members of the public to watch the Event and to reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the Event. The Order is required to allow the Event to be carried out safely on or near the highway and to ensure the health and safety of the general public.
5. Exemptions will be provided for police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles on emergency call and vehicles associated with the event.
6. The Order will come into operation on 3 May 2025 and will continue, in force as follows, as and when relevant traffic signs are displayed- (i) in respect of the roads specified in paragraph
2 (a) - (e) above from 6:00am Saturday, 3 May 2025 to 9:00pm Sunday 4 May 2025, and (ii) in respect of the roads specified in paragraph 2 (f) - (h) above from 8.30pm to 10pm Saturday,
3 June 2023 and from 6.30pm to 8.00pm Sunday, 4 May 2025 as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.
