What is happening?

(i) (On Street Parking Place) Order 2009 (Westgate Road Area Variation) Order 2025

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on the 10th April 2025 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Sections 32, 35, 45, 46, 49, 53, 63 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 which amends the City of Newcastle upon Tyne (On Street Parking Places) Order 2009 (“the 2009 On Street Order”).

2. The effect of the Order which will come into operation on 21st April 2025 is to designate the following lengths of road as parking places for Parking Zone WG8 permit holders between 8am and 7pm all days -

(1) Back Westgate Road (North) -

(i) north side, from a point 7 metres east of Cross Villa Place No. 4 eastwards for a distance of 60 metres,

(ii) north side, from a point 31 metres west of Cross Villa Place No. 2 eastwards for 24 metres,

(2) Corporation Street - north side, from a point 3 metres east of Cross Villa Place No. 5 eastwards for 68 metres.

The permit holders parking places will be added to the 2009 Order and therefore the provisions and conditions of that Order will apply to them.

NOTE: Resident parking permits will be available for each eligible property (a maximum of 2 per property) which will exempt permit holders from the restriction. 

A visitor parking permit may also be issued to eligible residential properties (a maximum of one per property). 

Permits may also be available (if they would cause no unreasonable detriment to resident parking) for any property occupied by a business or charity (maximum numbers apply). 

Permits will be issued for Parking Zone WG8. Details of permit charges/issue/renewal, conditions of use, discounts and types of permit are contained in the 2009 Order.

Parking Permits for Parking Zone WG8 will be available to occupiers of properties at -

(i) Westgate Road - Nos. 179 to 305 (odd, including A, B & C’s) and Nos. 178 to 278 (even, including A, B & C’s),

(ii) Corporation Street - all properties,

(iii) Cross Villa Place No. 3 - all properties,

(iv) Cross Villa Place No. 4 - all properties,

(v) Cross Villa Place No. 5 - all properties.

(ii) Traffic Regulation (Consolidation) Order 2009 (Back Westgate Road and Corporation Street Area Variation) Order 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on the 10th April 2025 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Sections 1, 2, 4, 29 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 which amends the City of Newcastle upon Tyne Traffic Regulation (Consolidation) Order 2009 (“the 2009 Consolidation Order”).

2. The effect of the Order which will come into operation on 21st April 2025 is to -

(1) introduce a no waiting at any time restriction (double yellow lines) on the following lengths of road -

(a) Back Westgate Road (North) -
(i) north side, from Cross Villa Place No. 4 eastwards for 7 metres,

(ii) north side, from a point 13 metres west of Cross Villa Place No. 3 eastwards for 47 metres, 

(iii) north side, from a point 37 metres west of Cross Villa Place No. 2 eastwards for 5 metres,

(vi) north side, from a point 7 metres west of Cross Villa Place No. 2 eastwards for 17 metres, and

(v) south side, from Cross Villa Place No. 4 for its entire length.

(b) Cross Villa Place No. 1 - both sides, for its full length.

(c) Cross Villa Place No. 3 - both sides, for its full length.

(d) Corporation Street -
(i) north side, from Westgate Road north eastwards, then eastwards to a point 3 metres east of Cross Villa Place No. 5, and

(ii) south side, from Westgate Road north eastwards, then eastwards to a point 10 metres west of Cross Villa Place No. 5.

(2) introduce a no waiting restriction between 8am and 7pm Monday to Saturday on the following lengths of road -

Corporation Street -
(i) south side, from a point 10 metres west of Cross Villa Place No. 5 eastwards to Cross Villa Place No. 4,

(ii) south side, from Cross Villa Place No. 4 eastwards for its entire length, and

(iii) north side, from a point 71 metres east of Cross Villa Place No. 5 eastwards for its entire length.

(3) revoke the following existing waiting restrictions -

(i) no waiting between 8am and 6.30pm any day on both sides of the Rear of Nos. 172 - 194 Westgate Road from Cross Villa Place No. 2 for its entire length (including the hammerhead),

(ii) no waiting between 8am and 6.30pm Monday to Saturday on both sides of Corporation Street from 10 metres west of Cross Villa Place No. 5 eastwards to its most easterly point,

(iii) no waiting between 8am and 6.30pm Monday to Saturday on the south side of Corporation Street for its whole length, and

(iv) no waiting at any time on both sides of Corporation Street from Westgate Road to 10 metres west of Cross Villa Place No. 5.

Note: Following comments received, in response to the proposals that were advertised in the Journal newspaper on 18th July 2024, some of the proposals that were advertised will not be proceeded with. 

Some minor amendments have been made to the proposals taking into consideration the comments received, and the restrictions will come into effect as advertised above.

If you wish to question the validity of the above Orders or of any of their provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Act or that any relevant requirements have not been complied with in relation to the Orders you may, within six weeks from 10th April 2025, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
