What is happening?

SOUTH TYNESIDE COUNCIL (BOLDON COLLIERY AREA 20MPH) ORDER 2025

South Tyneside Council proposes to make an Order under Section 84 of and Schedule 9 to,
the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers. The effect of the Order
will be to reduce the speed limit in the Boldon Colliery Area to 20mph on:- the entire lengths
of Church View, Davison St, Donkins St, Front St, Grays Terrace, Simpson Close, Station Rd,
Toppings St, Wilton Gdns North and Wilton Gdns South. Hedworth Lane from a point 5m east of its junction with Abingdon Way for its entire length; North Rd from its junction with Cotswold Lane for 485m in a northerly direction; North back Hedworth Lane from no’s 64 to 10; South back Hedworth Lane from no’s 17 to 45. The following unnamed roads:- from junction of 28 to 32 Hedworth Lane in a north westerly direction for 45m; from a point 48m north of Station Rd’s junction with Hedworth Lane for 30m in a westerly direction; between Grays Terrace and Hedworth Lane; between Davison St and Front St; from its junction of 34/45 Davison St for 16m east to Donkins St; from its junction of 9/10 Davison St for 16m east to Donkins St; from its junction with North Rd from 36/37 Fenwick St for 143m in a westerly direction; from its junction with North Rd from 22/23 Fenwick St for 40m in a westerly direction and from the junction of North Rd with Fenwick St to Toppings St. Full details of these proposals are contained in the draft order which, together with a plan showing the lengths of road affected and a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order, may be inspected from Monday to Friday during normal office hours at the Town Hall at the address below. If you wish to raise an objection, express
support or make any other observations about these proposals, you must make them in writing to the Council’s Legal Services Department at the address below or by using the same
email address above by the 5 May 2025. Any objections must specify the grounds on which
they are made.
