Durham, Temporary Road Closures Due To Carriageway Resurfacing Works

What is happening?

THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF DURHAM

(A693, HIGH HANDENHOLD) (TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE, PROHIBITION OF OVERTAKING AND SPEED RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2025

The Council on 4/4/2025 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to restrict and prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road in the manner described:

Temporary 40 mph speed restriction on: a 1675 metre length of the A693 from 50 metres east of the centreline with the C84 to Beamish, extending east to 417 metres east of the C4 Roundabout at Pelton and incorporating a 20 metre length extending south on the C4 Pelton Lane, to the permanent 40 mph location.

Temporary 10 mph speed restriction under lead convoy vehicle, with prohibited overtaking on: a 945 metre length of the A693, from 150 metres west of the centreline of the Greens Bank, West Pelton to 65 metres east of the C4 Roundabout at Pelton and incorporating a 45 metre length of the C4 extending south from the A693 roundabout.

Temporary closure to vehicular traffic of: up to a 140 metre length of Greens Bank that extends south westward from the A693 at West Pelton; an 80 metre length of road adjacent to High Handenhold Fire Station, extending northwards from the A693 and a 35 metre length of the C84 extending northwards from the A693 to High Hold Bungalows junction, at High Handenhold to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken. An alternative route will be signed to vehicular traffic from A. The northern side of the close in 3 a. from the A693 in a north westerly direction and turning southerly on the C84 toward West Pelton and Grange Villa, to the junction with Twizell Lane leading to Greens Bank to the southern side of the closure, B. The southern side of the closures in 3.a. and b. from the A693 in a north westerly direction and turning north on the C84 toward Beamish, then easterly on New Road to the northern side of the closure and vice versa. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence from 7pm on Sunday 13/4/2025 and are anticipated to be completed in 12 nights, to 6am each following morning. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
