What is happening?

(CLOSURE OF FOOTPATHS IN ELEMORE LANE, DORSET STREET AND EASINGTON LANE SUNDERLAND) AND (CLOSURE OF CARRIAGEWAYS IN ELEMORE LANE, DORSET STREET AND EASINGTON LANE SUNDERLAND)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDERS 2025
Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 9th April 2025 two Orders were made under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians along the footpaths in Schedule 1 and all traffic along the carriageways in Schedule 2. The Orders are required to enable gas main repair works to take place in or near the roads. The Orders will come into operation on 22nd April 2025. The maximum duration of the closure under the Orders will be 6 months for the footpaths and 18 months for the carriageways, however, where applicable, each closure will be limited to any one time and the overall duration of the works has a 6 week duration. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the footpaths (except personnel involved in the works) and all traffic will be prohibited from the carriageways (except vehicles and personnel involved in the works) until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. Vehicular access for affected residents will be provided when essential or in an emergency and when the works are not in operation. Pedestrian access to affected properties will be maintained be throughout. Alternative routes will be provided via the adjacent highway network. Schedule 1 Footpaths (i) Elemore Lane all associated footpaths linking all properties from 38 Elemore Lane to 56 Elemore Lane. (ii) Dorset Street from the extended southeastern property boundary of 97 Elemore Lane for a distance of 45 metres in a north-westerly direction. (iii) Dorset Street from the extended southeastern property boundary of 96 Elemore Lane for a distance of 38 metres in a north-westerly direction then for a distance of 34 metres in a south-westerly direction. (iv) Dorset Street from the extended party property boundary of 95 and 96 Elemore Lane to the extended party property boundary of 99 and 100 Elemore Lane. Schedule 2 Carriageways Dorset Street from its junction at 96 Elemore Lane to adjacent to the northwestern property boundary of 7 Dorset Street.
