Northumberland, Temporary Road Closure due to Patching, Civils Works, and Resurfacing
What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14(1)
A696 MONKRIDGE TO OTTERBURN, DISTRICT BOUNDARY TO MONKRIDGE, DISTRICT BOUNDARY AND KNOWESGATE TO DISTRICT BOUNDARY OTTERBURN (TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Northumberland County Council have made an Order to prohibit the use by vehicular traffic on the following sections of roads in the County of Northumberland.
The Order is to be effective from the 14th April 2025 until the 31st October 2025.
Road Closures:
A696 Monkridge to Otterburn, Otterburn from its junction with the B6341 Monkridge to Elsdon heading south eastwards for a distance of 1415 metres.
A696 District Boundary to Monkridge District Boundary, Otterburn for its entire length of 8035 metres.
A696 Knowesgate to District Boundary, Otterburn for its entire length of 2945 metres.
It is expected that the roads will only be closed on the 14th April 2025 between the hours of 08:00 and 16:00 during this period; however, the order will remain in place until 31st October 2025.
An alternative route will be available for use whilst the TTRO is in force being via the A696, B6342, A68 and vice-versa. Should the need arise changes may be made to the alternative routes, where possible these changes will be signposted accordingly.

The closure has been requested by Northumberland County Council to carry out patching works, civils works, surface dressing, lock-chip and road markings. In order to minimise future disruption, other contractors may be undertaking works throughout the duration of this Order.
