What is happening?

(VARIOUS ROADS IN WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF ALL TRAFFIC) (NO.34) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable highway works to be carried out (“the Works”), Westmorland and Furness Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic (i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists), from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached Schedule. Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force.
Phased works will not necessarily be done in numerical order.
NB: To facilitate the alternative route for closure number 10 in the Schedule (phase 3 (iii), the one-way restriction will be temporarily suspended along the following sections of road;
(i) Kelsick Road, Ambleside, from its junction with Rothay Road extending in an easterly direction to its junction with Lake Road; and
(ii) Lake Road, Ambleside, from its junction with Kelsick Road, extending in a southerly direction to its junction with Wansfell Road.
NB: To facilitate the alternative route the one-way restriction for closure 21 in the Schedule that section of Blackhall Road will be temporarily suspended from its junction with Stormgate, extending in a south easterly direction to its junction with New Road.
Westmorland and Furness Highways will ensure that local residents and the general public are informed of which roads are to be closed and when, nearer the time.

Any Order will come into operation on 28th April 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required for 2 months in total and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

SCHEDULE EXTENT OF RESTRICTIONS AND ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
Underlay Road, Kendal (Ref: TTROW/13784)
From its junction with Windermere Road, extending in a north easterly direction to its junction with Kendal Green.
Alternative Route: via Kendal Green, Fairfield Lane and Windermere Road.
U5520 & B5287 Easdale Road, Grasmere (Ref: TTROW/13786)
(i) U5520: From its junction with the U5519, extending in a south easterly direction to its junction with the B5287; and
(ii) B5287: From its junction with Easdale Road, extending predominantly south westerly direction to its junction with the Red Bank Road.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of the B5287, A591 and the U5519.
Stonecross Road & Lumley Road, Kendal (Ref: TTROW/13787)
(i) Stonecross Road: From its junction with Milnthorpe Road (A6), extending in a north westerly direction to its junction with Lumley Road; and
(ii) Lumley Road: From a point approx. 90 metres south east of its junction with Collinfield, extending in a southerly direction for approx. 40 metres.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of Lumley Road, Collinfield, Kendal Green and Milnthorpe Road (A6).
B6446 New Road, Kirkby Lonsdale (Ref: TTROW/13788)
From its junction with Main Street, extending in a westerly direction to its junction with Michelgate.
Alternative Route: via Kendal Road, A65 and Main Street (B6254).
C5060, Winster (Ref: TTROW/13789)
(i) From its junction with Green Lane, extending in a north easterly direction to its junction with Crook Road (B5284); and
(ii) From its junction with Crook Road (B5284), extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 50 metres.
Alternative Route: via Crook Road (B5284), Kendal Road, A5074, and the unrestricted section of the C5060.
U5645 & C5075 Sedgwick (Ref: TTROW/13790)
(i) U5645: From a point approx. 760 metres east of its junction with the C5076, extending in a south westerly then south easterly direction to its junction with the C5075; and
(ii) C5075: From its junction with the U5645, extending in a north south easterly direction to its junction with Back Lane.
Alternative Route: via Back Lane, C5071, Harry Brook, Wibbin Hall Lane, C5072, A6, A590, C5076 and the unrestricted section of Nannypie Lane (U5654).
U5645, U5644 & C5077 Old Hutton (Ref: TTROW/13791)
(i) U5645: From a point approx. 650 metres north east of its junction with the C5077, extending in an easterly direction to its junction with the U5644; and
(ii) U6544: From its junction with the U5645, extending in a south easterly direction to its junction with the C5077; and
(iii) C5077: From its junction with the U5644, extending in a north easterly then south easterly direction to its junction C5078
Alternative Route: via the C5078, Old Scotch Road (C5069), B6254, C5077 and the unrestricted section of the U5645."

From its junction with Princes Way (A6), extending in a north easterly then easterly direction for a distance of approx. 70 metres.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of the U5339, C5072, U5338 and Princes Way (A6).
A684 Scotch Jeans, Kendal - (Ref: TTROW/13795)
From its junction with Old Scotch Road, extending in a predominantly south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 1.3 km.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the A684, A683, A65, A590, A591, Windermere Road, Stricklandgate, Sandes Avenue, Station Road, Longpool, Appleby Road (A685), Sandylands Road, Sedbergh Road, Castle Green Lane and Singleton Park Road.
A5075 Borrans Road & A593 Rothay Road, Ambleside - (Ref: TTROW/13796)
(i) Borrans Road (Phase 1): From a point approx. 200 metres north west of its junction with McIver Lane, extending in a predominantly northerly direction to its junction with the A593.
Alternative Route: Via the unrestricted sections of the Borrans Road (A5075), Lake Road, Wansfell Road and Rothay Road.
(ii) Borrans Road (Phase 2): From its junction with the A593, extending in a northerly direction for a distance of approx. 210 metres.
Alternative Route: Via the A593 and Rothay Road.
(iii) A593 Rothay Road (Phase 3): From its junction with Borrans Road, extending in a north easterly direction for a distance of approx. 170 metres.

From a point approx. 550 metres north east of its junction with the C5065, extending in a easterly direction for a distance of approx. 820 metres.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the A685, Appleby Road, Sandylands Road, Sedbergh Road, Castle Green Lane, Singleton Park Road, A684, A683 and Ash Fell Road.
A6 Blackhall Road & Stramongate, Kendal (Ref: TTROW/13811)
(i) A6 Blackhall Road: From its junction with Sandes Avenue, extending in a south easterly direction to its junction with Stramongate; and
(ii) Stramongate: From its junction with Blackhall Road, extending in a north easterly then south easterly direction to New Road.
Alternative Route: via Sandes Avenue, Station Road, Wildman Street and the unrestricted section of Stramongate.
