THE LANCASHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL
DELETION AND ADDITION OF FOOTPATH ALONG THE WESTERN BANK OF RIVER DOUGLAS AT Douglas BoatYard, Hesketh Bank (Definitive Map Modification) Order 2025
The above Order, made on 29 January 2025, if confirmed as made, will modify the Definitive Map and Statement of Public Rights of Way for the area, by deleting the full unrecorded width of part of Footpath 5 in the parish of Tarleton (FP0816005) and part of Footpath 46 in the parish of Hesketh with Becconsall (FP0810046) from an unmarked point immediately adjacent to the stone surfaced path designated as the King Charles III England Coast Path running in a generally northerly direction passing through the unmarked parish boundary and continuing in a north north easterly direction ascending an overgrown grassy embankment to cross over the top of the remains of the brickwork that supported the former railway swing bridge and to continue along the top and along the remains of an embankment on the rear boundary of and now forming part of Douglas Marine boatyard to a point where it crosses the entrance to the boatyard at Becconsall Lane; a total distance of 535 metres.
The above Order, if confirmed as made, will also modify the Definitive Map and Statement of Public Rights of Way for the area, by recording a footpath from an unmarked point immediately adjacent to the stone surfaced path designated as the King Charles III England Coast Path and running along the stone surfaced path in a generally northerly direction passing through a gap in a former embankment and continuing in a generally north north easterly direction along the marsh at the base of the embankment to pass below the remains of the brickwork that supported the former railway swing bridge running immediately adjacent and in places consistent with the line of the England Coast Path until entering Douglas Marine boatyard then following a route near to but west of the access track designated as the England Coast Path where passage along the route to be added is currently blocked by a number of caravans, boats and a fenced storage area to a point where it crosses the entrance to the boatyard at Becconsall Lane; a total distance of 515 metres.

Any representations about, or objections to the Order may be sent in writing by email to

If no representations or objections are duly made to the Order, or if any so made are withdrawn, Lancashire County Council, instead of submitting the Order to the Secretary of State for the Environment, may itself confirm the Order. If the Order is submitted to the Secretary of State for the Environment, any representations or objections which have been duly made and not withdrawn will be sent with it.
