Lowther Street, Carlisle - Temporary Traffic Restrictions for Utility Works

What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (A7 LOWTHER STREET (FOOTWAY AND BUS LANE), CARLISLE) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council has made an Order the effect of which is to:

  1. Prohibit pedestrians, from proceeding along a section of footway situated on the east side of Lowther Street, Carlisle from its junction with Victoria Place to its junction with Lonsdale Street.

    A suitable alternative route for pedestrians will be signed and available via the Lowther Street bus lane that sits adjacent to the footway closure.

  2. Prohibit any vehicle, from proceeding along that section of the A7 Lowther Street (south bound bus lane) from its junction with Victoria Place to its junction with Lonsdale Street.

    A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via Victoria Place, Spencer Street and Warwick Road.

The Order will come into operation on 7 April 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months.

However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required for 2 days and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
