What is happening?

EAST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

The East Sussex (C81 Bells Yew Green Road/The Green, Frant) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Bells Yew Green Road/The Green – from the junction with B2169 Bayham Road to the junction with A267 Mayfield Road.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via A267 Mayfield Road – B2099 Wadhurst Road, Riverhall Hill, Frant Road, Station Hill, Station Road, Durgates – B2100 Cousley Wood Road – C82 Newbury Lane, Monks Lane, Bartley Mill Road – B2169 Bayham Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 22 April 2025 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 22 and 26 April 2025 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (B2100 Cousley Wood Road, Wadhurst) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Cousley Wood Road – from the junction with B2100 Sparrows Green Road to the junction with B2100 The Slade.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via B2100 Sparrows Green Road – B2099 High Street, Lower High Street, Moseham Hill, Ticehurst Road, Shovers Green, High Street – B2087 Lower Platts, Dale Hill, Berners Hill, Broom Hill, Union Street, High Street – A21 (T) – B2169 (KCC) – B2100 (KCC) and vice versa.

The Order commences 7 April 2025 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 7 and 8 April 2025 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (B2110 Cat Street, Hartfield) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

To allow UKPN to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure
Cat Street – from the junction with U7472 Parrock Lane to the junction with U7845 Harts Lane.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via B2110 Shepherds Hill, Hartfield Road – A22 London Road, Lewes Road, Wych Cross, Millbrook Hill, High Street, Fords Green Road, Courtlands Road, Horney Common Road – B2026 Lampool Road, Duddleswell Road, High Road, Chuck Hatch Road, Cotchford Hill, Jib Jacks Hill – B2110 Newtons Hill, Gallipot Hill and vice versa.

The Order commences 7 April 2025 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 7 and 9 April 2025 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (U7534/U7535 Sleepers Stile Road/Sweetings Lane/Lower Cousley Wood Lane, Wadhurst) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following lengths of road;

Temporary Road Closures
Sleepers Stile Road – from the junction with U7535 Lower Cousley Wood Lane for a distance of 75 metres in an easterly direction.

Sweetings Lane – from the junction with U7534 Sleepers Stile Road for a distance of 60 metres in a northerly direction.

Lower Cousley Wood Lane – from the junction with U7534 Sleepers Stile Road for a distance of 60 metres in a southerly direction.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via Neills Road (KCC) – Hoghole Lane (KCC) – B2100 The Slade, Cousley Wood Road – C82 Newbury Lane – C537 Newbury Lane and vice versa.

The Order commenced 11 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 9 and 10 April 2025 depending upon the weather conditions.

NOTICE OF CONFIRMATION OF AN ORDER
SECTION 53 OF THE WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981
THE EAST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL (WEALDEN DISTRICT) DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT THE EAST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL (PUBLIC FOOTPATH WITHYHAM 88) DEFINITIVE MAP MODIFICATION ORDER 2025

The above Order, made on 24 January 2025, was confirmed by the Council without modifications on 28 March 2025 and took effect from that date. The confirmed Order modifies the Definitive Map and Statement for the area by adding a public footpath as follows:

A public footpath with an arbitrary centreline route as shown on the Order Plan between points B – C with a width of 3.4 metres throughout.

The public footpath commences from the southernmost point of existing public footpath WT431 in Kent, on the County border between Kent and East Sussex, halfway across the stone bridge that crosses over the River Grom, at point B at TQ 5335 3755.

From point B the footpath continues in a south south-westerly direction for 12 metres until it reaches existing public footpath Withyham 33 in East Sussex at point C at TQ 5335 3754.

A copy of the confirmed Order and Order map have been deposited and can be inspected free of charge in Reception, County Hall, St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes BN7 1UE between the hours of 9am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday between 4 April 2025 and 23 May 2025 and during the same period at Wealden District Council, Vicarage Lane, Hailsham, East Sussex BN27 2AX between the hours of 8.30am and 5pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 9.30am and 5pm on Wednesday, and online at https://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/leisure-tourism/discover-east-sussex/rights-of-way/definitive-map-statement/claiming-changing-public-right-of-way/register-definitive-map-modification-order-applications Should you have any difficulties viewing the documents, or require these documents at any time, please email definitive.map@eastsussex.gov.uk and ask for assistance quoting reference ‘RWO 241’.

The Order took effect from 28 March 2025 but any person aggrieved by the confirmed Order who wishes to question its validity on the grounds that it is not within the powers of section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 or that any of the requirements of Schedule 15 to that Act have not been complied with in relation to the Order may within 42 days from the date of this Notice make an application to the High Court under paragraph 12 of Schedule 15 of the said Act.
