Strawberry Lane and St Andrews Street Area - Prohibition of Driving of Motor Vehicles Restriction
What is happening?
CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
STRAWBERRY LANE AND ST ANDREWS STREET AREA
(i) Traffic Regulation (Consolidation) Order 2009 (Strawberry Lane and Back Gallowgate Variation) Order 2025
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 27th March 2025 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Sections 1, 2, 4, 29 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 which amends the City of Newcastle upon Tyne Traffic Regulation (Consolidation) Order 2009 (“the 2009 Consolidation Order”).
2. The effect of the Order which will come into operation on 7th April 2025 is to introduce a prohibition of driving of motor vehicles restriction on the following lengths of road. An exemption will be provided for police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles on emergency call -
(a) Back Gallowgate - from Strawberry Lane eastwards for 55 metres, and
(b) Strawberry Lane - from 10 metres north of St Andrews Street to 19 metres south of Strawberry Place.
(ii) City of Newcastle upon Tyne (City Centre Controlled Parking Zone) Restriction of Waiting Order 2009 (Back Gallowgate Variation) Order 2025
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 27th March 2025 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Sections 1, 2, 4 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 which amends the City of Newcastle upon Tyne (City Centre Controlled Parking Zone) Restriction of Waiting Order 2009 (“the 2009 CPZ Order”).
2. The effect of the Order which will come into operation on 7th April 2025 is to add the following length of road into the 2009 CPZ Order which will have the effect of introducing a no waiting at any time except at designated parking places restriction - Back Gallowgate - (both sides) from Strawberry Lane eastwards for its entire length.
(iii) (On Street Parking Places) Order 2009 (St Andrews Street Variation) Order 2025
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 27th March 2025 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Sections 32, 35, 45, 46, 49, 53, 63 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 which amends the City of Newcastle upon Tyne (On Street Parking Places) Order 2009 (“the 2009 On Street Order”).
2. The effect of the Order which will come into operation on 7th April 2025 is to -
(a) relocate a section of Parking Places for Disabled Badge Holders on St Andrews Street so that it extends as follows - St Andrews Street - south side, from 7.6 metres west of Strawberry Lane westwards for 6.6 metres (currently extends from 2.7 metres west of Strawberry Lane westwards for 5.56 metres), and
(b) amend in length a section of Parking Places with Parking Meters on St Andrews Street so that it extends as follows - St Andrews Street - south side, from 14.2 metres west of Strawberry Lane westwards for 16.3 metres (currently extends from 8.26 metres west of Strawberry Lane westwards for 22.2 metres).

If you wish to question the validity of the above Orders or of any of their provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Act or that any relevant requirements have not been complied with in relation to the Orders you may, within six weeks from 27th March 2025, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
