Braintree - Multiple Temporary Road Closures due to Utility and Maintenance Works

What is happening?

Essex County Council

(Gestingthorpe Road, Little Maplestead) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Gestingthorpe Road, Little Maplestead in the District of Braintree, from a point approximately 275m north of its junction with Cock Road for a distance of approximately 95m in a northerly direction.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 28th April 2025 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30084971396 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new connection works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.

An alternative route is available via Hedingham Road, Sudbury Road, Great Maplestead Road, Monks Lodge Road, Lucking Street, Toldish Hall Road, Church Road and vice versa (with access only into Oak Road, Gestingthorpe Road and Little Maplestead Road).

The Order will come into effect on 10th April 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(School Road, Little Yeldham) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of School Road, Little Yeldham in the District of Braintree, from a point approximately 190m south west of its junction with Church Green for a distance of approximately 120m in a south westerly direction.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 2nd May 2025 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (BC008IP248759402302324 – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while pole testing works are undertaken by Openreach.

An alternative route is available via School Road, Little Yeldham Road, Leather Lane, Bridge Street, High Street, Poole Street, Hedingham Road, Yeldham Road, Crouch Green, Swan Street, Potter Street, Queen Street, Halstead Road, Halstead Road – A1124, Hedingham Road, Head Street, Sudbury Road, Catley Cross, Long Gardens, Sudbury Road – Bulmer Tye – A131, Bulmer Tye, Ballingdon Hill, Bulmer Road, Kitchen Hill, Sudbury Road, Bulmer Street, Lower Houses, Sudbury Road, Hall Road, North End Road and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 10th April 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Various Roads, District of Braintree) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Temporary Introduction of a Clearway) (No.7) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

1. To temporarily close those lengths of roads in the District of Braintree as specified in the Schedule.

2. A temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ restriction will be introduced on both sides of carriageway on the above lengths of roads for the duration of the closures to facilitate the works. Signs will be installed indicating when the No Waiting restriction will be in force.

3. “The Essex County Council (Braintree District) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) and (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019” will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping at Any Time’ restriction and suspend any existing parking and waiting restrictions on the above lengths of roads only. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the aforementioned Order and Amendments to that Order shall remain in force.

The works being undertaken will take place within an 18-month period from 10th April 2025, exact dates will be specified on one.network. The roads will be closed to facilitate each phase of works and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Diversion routes will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the road.

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Hedingham Road, Halstead in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Chapel Street for a distance of approximately 35m in a south easterly direction.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 15th April 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD03165542611 – Anglian Water).

The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while communication pipe repair works are undertaken by Anglian Water.

An alternative route is available via Braintree Road, Hedingham Road, The Street, Braintree Road, Gosfield Road, Halstead Road, Penny Pot Corner, Bournbridge Hill, Braintree Road, Mount Hill, Trinity Street, Bridge Street, High Street and vice versa (with access only into Hedingham Road, Halstead Road-A1124 and Halstead Road).

The Order came into effect on 27th March 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Lucking Street, Great Maplestead) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Lucking Street, Great Maplestead in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Church Road to its junction with Church Street a distance of approximately 890m.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 15th April 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP201EH2378696 – Essex County Council).

The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway patching works are undertaken by Essex County Council.

An alternative route is available via Toldish Hall Road, Church Street and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 27th March 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
