(SAINT MARYS BOULEVARD, SUNDERLAND) (NO WAITING, NO LOADING/UNLOADING AND NO STOPPING EXCEPT FOR TAXIS AND BUS LANE AND TAXI BAY)
EXPERIMENTAL TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
Notice is hereby given by the Council of the City of Sunderland that on 26th March 2025 it made an Order under Sections 1, 9, 10 and 122 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”), and of all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance in Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act and with the persons and organisations specified in the Local Authorities Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and Wales) Regulations 1996, the effect of which will be on an experimental basis to prohibit waiting at any time along the roads in Schedule 1. Prohibit loading/unloading at any time along the roads in Schedule 2. Introduce a taxi bay on all days and at all times along Saint Marys Boulevard, Sunderland, the south side from a point 44.1 metres west of the extended eastern building line of the Holiday Inn, for a distance of 22.5 metres in a westerly direction. Introduce no stopping at any time except for taxis along Saint Marys Boulevard, Sunderland, the south side from a point 44.1 metres west of the extended eastern building line of the Holiday Inn, for a distance of 22.5 metres in a westerly direction. Suspend existing bus, pedal cycle and taxi lane operating on all days and all hours and introduce reduced length along Saint Marys Boulevard nearside with-flow westbound, from a point 99.1 metres west of the extended eastern building line of the Holiday Inn, to a point 16.0 metres north-east of the extended western property boundary of Wear View House. Suspend the parts of the Orders to the extent specified in Schedule 3. The Order will come into force on 14th April 2025 and shall cease to have effect 18 months after the date on which it comes into force, which is 15th October 2026. . The Council will be considering in due course whether the provisions of the Experimental Order should be continued in force indefinitely. Within a period of 6 months beginning with the day the Order came into force, or if the Order is varied by another order or modified pursuant to Section 10(2) of the Act, beginning with the day on which the variation or modification or the latest variation or modification came into force, any person may object or make representations to the making of an Order for the purpose of such indefinite continuation. Any objection must be made in writing and must state the grounds on which it is made. If any person wishes to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Act or that any requirement of the Act or of any instrument made under the Act has not been complied with that person may within six weeks from the date on which the Order was made apply for the purpose to the High Court. SCHEDULE 3 Schedule Part B Schedule X60: Bus Lane All Days and All Hours (including) Taxi and Cycle of The City of Sunderland (St Mary’s Way Area) Traffic Order 2015, Item 1 relating to Livingstone Road and Item 2 relating to the Unnamed Road linking St Mary’s Way to Livingstone Road, are hereby suspended for the duration of this Order. Schedule Part B Schedule 1.01 No Waiting at Any Time of The City of Sunderland (St Mary’s Way Area) Traffic Order 2015, Items relating to ‘Livingstone Road Both sides for its entire length’; ‘Saint Mary’s Way Both sides for its entire length’, and ‘Un-named Road, Linking St Mary’s Way to Livingstone Road Both sides for its entire length’, are hereby suspended for the duration of this Order. Schedule Part B Schedule 2.01 Prohibition of loading & unloading: At any time of The City of Sunderland (St Mary’s Way Area) Traffic Order 2015, Items relating to ‘Livingstone Road Both sides for its entire length’ and ‘Un-named Road, Linking St Mary’s Way to Livingstone Road Both sides for its entire length’, are hereby suspended for the duration of this Order.
