THE M1 MOTORWAY, THE M621 MOTORWAY AND THE M62
MOTORWAY (LOFTHOUSE TO STOURTON)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the M1 Motorway, the M621 Motorway and the M62 Motorway, in the Cities of Leeds and Wakefield, to enable carriageway resurfacing, repair and inspection, machine surveys and general surveys, structure maintenance and inspections, loop cutting, white lining, road stud replacement, gully emptying, carriageway sweeping, sign maintenance and inspection, communication equipment maintenance and inspection, safety barrier inspections and repair, grass cutting and weed spraying, street lighting repairs and inspection and general maintenance, magnetometer installation and maintenance and drainage works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start on Monday 7 April 2025 for 6 months, or until completed. And will take place between 7pm and 7am.
The effect of the Order will be, at times during the works, to impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the:
(i) M1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 44 (Rothwell Haigh) to the entry slip road at Junction 42 (Lofthouse Interchange), a distance of 6040 metres;
(ii) M1 northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 42 to its diverge with the M621/M1 Junction 43 (Hook Moor Interchange), a distance of 2680 metres;
(iii) M621 clockwise carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 7 (Stourton) to its merge with the M1 at Junction 43, a distance of 2660 metres;
(iv) M62 eastbound carriageway from the centre point of East Ardsley rail overbridge to the entry slip road at Junction 29 (Lofthouse Interchange), a distance of 2640 metres:
(v) M1 northbound entry slip road at Junction 42;
(vi) M1 southbound entry slip road at Junction 44;
(vii) M621 clockwise entry slip road at Junction 7; and
(viii) dedicated link road connection the M62 eastbound carriageway at Junction 42 with the M1 northbound carriageway at Junctions 29 (Lofthouse Interchange).
It will also be necessary to close, at times during the works the:
(ix) M621 clockwise carriageway as described in (iii);
(x) M1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 42 to the entry slip road at Junction 42, a distance of 1700 metres;
(xi) M1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 44 to its merge with the M621/M1 at Junction 43, a distance of 3100 metres;
(xii) slip roads and link road as described in (v), (vi), (vii) and (viii);
(xiii) dedicated link road connecting connection the M1 southbound carriageway at Junction 42 with the M62 westbound carriageway at Junction 29 (Lofthouse Interchange); and (xiv) M62 eastbound exit slip road at Junction 29.
During the closures, suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times.
It will also be necessary, at times during the works, to ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 9’6” in specified lanes of the M1, M621 and M62 as described in the lengths of carriageway as described in (i), (ii), (iii) and (viii).
Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 6 April 2025 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
