Carlisle, Temporary Road Closures Due To Utility Works
What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS IN AND AROUND SMITHFIELD, SCALEBY, LONGTOWN, CARGO AND HETHERSGILL)
(TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached Schedule.
Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force. A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 14 April 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as stated in the schedule and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

EXTENT OF RESTRICTIONS AND ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
U1081 near Hethersgill – From 14 April 2025 for approx. 3 days (Ref: TTROC/13869)
From its junction with the C1012 to its junction with the U1085.
Alternative Route: via the U1085 Boltonfieldend and the C1012 Hethersgill.
U1077 near Smithfield – From 21 April 2025 for approx. 3 days (Ref: TTROC/13871)
From its junction with the C1005 to its junction with the A6071.
Alternative Route: via the A6071 and the C1005.
C1011 Barclose, Scaleby – From 24 April 2025 for approx. 3 days (Ref: TTROC/13872)
From its junction with the U1089 to its junction with Bar Lonning.
Alternative Route: via the Bar Lonning, C1012, A6071 Smithfield and the C1011.
C1005 near Smithfield – From 28 April 2025 for approx. 3 days (Ref: TTROC/13873)
From its junction with the U1077 Fergusghill to its junction with the A6071.
Alternative Route: via the A6071 and the U1077.
U1082 and U1085 near Smithfield – From 1 May 2025 for approx. 6 days (Ref: TTROC/13874)
(i) U1082 from its junction with Sikitby Road to its northern junction with the U1085.
Alternative Route: via the U1082, U1083 and Sikitby Road.
(ii) U1085 from its southern junction with the U1082, extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 500m.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of the U1085, U1083 and the U1082.
U1115 and Eden Close, Cargo – From 5 May 2025 for approx. 1 week (Ref: TTROC/13899)
U1115 from its junction with the C1016, extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 915m.
Eden Close from its junction with the U1115, extending in a south easterly direction for its entire length.
There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles.
U1084 near Smithfield – From 6 May 2025 for approx. 3 days (Ref: TTROC/13875)
From its junction with the U1083, extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 360m.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of the U1084, A6071 and the U1083.
U1001 near Longtown – From 13 May 2025 for approx. 3 days (Ref: TTROC/13876)
From a point approx 250m north west of its junction with the C1010, extending in a north westerly direction for approx 1.2km.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the U1001, B6357, Canonbie, A7 and the C1010.
C1011 near Smithfield – From 19 May 2025 for approx. 3 days (Ref: TTROC/13877)
From its junction with the U1089, extending in an easterly direction for approx 540m.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the C1011, A6071, C1012 and Bar Lonning.
