Oxford, Multiple Temporary Road Closures Due To Utility Works & Infrastructure Projects

Notice of Temporary Traffic Order

Blackbird Leys, Various Streets Prohibition of Through Traffic

Date of Order: 14 April 2025

Coming into force: 21 April 2025

This Order is being introduced because new electric cables to be installed in the carriageway as part of a network regeneration project which is anticipated to be completed 8 December 2025.

Exemptions are included to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding in the Fairs Field, Firs Meadow, Tarragon Drive, Brake Hill, Little Bury & Green Hill at its junction with Croftgate Road.

Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. Access for cyclists and pedestrians will be maintained. The alternative route for traffic will be signed locally.

This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. (Ref: T13549/AC)

Notice of Temporary Traffic Order

Oxford, Marshall Road, Cowley Prohibition of Through Traffic

Date of Order: 24 March 2025

Coming into force: 31 March 2025

This Order is being introduced because of gas mains replacement works which are anticipated to be completed 22 April 2025. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding in that part of Marshall Road at its junction with Hollow Way.

Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. The alternative route for traffic is via Hollow Way, Horspath Road, Wilkins Road, Marshall Road and vice versa.

This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. (Ref: T15043/AC)

Notice of Temporary Traffic Order

Marston, Raymond Road Prohibition of Through Traffic and Waiting

Date of Order: 31 March 2025

Coming into force: 7 April 2025

This Order is being introduced because of footway works and kerbing which are anticipated to be completed 25 April 2025. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle from using Raymond Road between its junctions with Oxford Road and Cherwell Drive and will temporarily prohibit waiting in Raymond Road between the same points.

Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained. The alternative route for traffic is via Oxford Road, Marston Ferry Road and vice versa. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. (Ref: T15312/AC)

Notice of Temporary Traffic Order

Blackbird Leys, Knights Road Prohibition of Through Traffic

Date of Order: 7 April 2025

Coming into force: 14 April 2025

This Order is being introduced because of electric connection works including footpath reinstatement which are anticipated to be completed 25 April 2025. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding or waiting along part of Knights Road from its junction with Blackbird Leys Road to the entrance of Knights Court.

Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. Access for pedestrians will be maintained. The alternative route for traffic is via Knights Road, Pegasus Road and vice versa.

This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. (Ref: T14900/AC)

Notice of Temporary Traffic Order

Oxford, Botley Road and side roads

Prohibition of Through Traffic and Parking Suspensions

Date of Order: 11 November 2024

Coming into force: 18 November 2024

This Order is associated with the continued works at Oxford Rail Station and bridge. Its works also affect utility services passing beneath the bridge, and completion of new communications infrastructure along planned timescales. The revised date for works on fronts have been extended with previous amendments.

Restrictions as listed to 2026.

The effect of the Order is to continue to temporarily prohibit vehicles, and where appropriate prohibit use on foot, in proceeding in:

  1. Botley Road from Frideswide Square to:

  2. Beckett Street into Mill Street to Becket Street.

  3. Beckett Street from Frideswide Square southwards for 35 meters, and to Suspend Parking in:

  4. Becket Street as above,

  5. Abbey Road from Botley Road to Cripley Place,

  6. Cripley Road,

  7. Cripley Road from Botley Road to Cripley Place,

  8. Cripley Place from Botley Road to Cripley Place,

  9. Cripley Place,

  10. Cripley Place, including a turning area, is a commercial point to replace the water main in Botley Road, to replace Roger Dudman Way and Mill Street.

Aside from various utility routing, a large commitment is to replacing the water main in Botley Road, from Cripley Place and Abbey Road.

Cripley Road, Cripley Place and Abbey Road (prohibition of waiting) will be used for temporary bus turning areas and passenger drop-off and holding points. This rectangular route will also be suspended for local traffic diversions during closures of sections of Botley Road.

Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Restrictions may be subject to changes of days and times of operation for utilities. Materials for hard bed trenching and disposal of materials should be selected to appropriate bus turning areas and designated areas and for works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. The alternative route for traffic is via the A34 Oxford Ring road.

The affected parts of the following orders are temporarily suspended for the duration of the works:

  • The Oxfordshire County Council (West Oxford and Osney Mead) (Controlled Parking Zone and Waiting Restrictions) Consolidation Order 2009 (as amended) with permits parking.

  • The Oxfordshire County Council (The City of Oxford) (Central Area) (Traffic Management) Order 2020 with residents buses from turning.

This Order continues to be necessary and expedient for the order to remain in force for beyond 18 months if needed if the order is revoked or the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. (Ref: T12813/AC)
