What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND ((HARRATON VILLAGE, SEVENOAKS DRIVE AND SPRINGWELL ESTATE) (20mph speed limit zoneS)) TRAFFIC order 2025
NOTICE is given that on 25th March 2025 Sunderland City Council made an Order under Sections 1, 2, 4, 84 and 85 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and Part IV of the Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, by virtue of the Traffic Management Act 2004 and all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 of the Act. The effect of the Order which comes into effect on 7th April 2025 is to: (i) Introduce 20mph Speed Limit Zones in the Harraton Village area of Washington and the Grindon Lane, Sevenoaks Drive and Springwell Estate Areas of Sunderland and more particularly described in the Schedule below; (ii) Revoke some of the 20mph speed limit zones from The City of Sunderland (Various Schools) (20mph Speed Limit Zones) Order 2018 and The City of Sunderland (Various Schools) (20mph Speed Limit Zones) (Amendment) Order 2021 which will be re-introduced in the proposed Order; and (iii) Revoke The City of Sunderland (Grindon Lane) 20mph Speed Limit Order 2005 the effect of which will be re-introduced in the proposed Order. Documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order may be inspected during normal opening hours at City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA, until six weeks have elapsed from the date on which the Order is made. Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Act or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or of any instrument made under the Act has not been complied with may within six weeks from the date on which the Order is made apply for the purpose to the High Court.
SCHEDULE The speed limit shall apply to the following roads for the full extent of the road unless stated: East Avenue; Middle Close; North Crescent; South Crescent; West Avenue: Westward Place; Arnham Grove; Bramley Close; Brockenhurst Drive; Gartland Road from the extended party property boundary of 65 & 67 Gartland Road to its western extent; Hillingdon Grove; Kingswood Grove; Kirkwood Avenue; Lynwood Avenue; Marlborough Road; Mayfield Grove; Parkstone Close; Selsdon Avenue; Sevenoaks Drive; Woodhurst Grove; Grindon Lane from a point 7.4 metres south-east of the southern highway boundary of Glenleigh Drive to a point 14.5 metres north-west of the extended party property boundary of 76 & 78 Grindon Lane; Seaton Road; Selkirk Square; Shaftoe Road; Shaftoe Square; Silloth Road; Simonside Road; Somerset Road; Somerset Square; Springbank Road; Springbank Square; Strathmore Road; Sunningdale Road North Back; Swindon Road and Swindon Square.
