What is happening?

READING BOROUGH COUNCIL

(BOROUGH WIDE) (DIGITAL PARKING PERMITS) ORDER 2025

Reading Borough Council under Sections 1(1), 2(1) to (3), 4(2), 32, 35, 45 and 46, 49, 51, 53, 122(1) and 122(2) and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”) and all other enabling powers has made the above order which will come into operation 24 March 2025. The purpose and effect of which will be to allow new applications, renewals, replacements and the issue of a digital parking permit for all parking permits through the Council’s online portal. This will allow you to instantly purchase or renew and receive a parking permit at any time, and there will be no requirement to display a physical parking permit on vehicles. The Council will still offer physical permits to residents who are unable to access digital services.

Copies of this Notice, the Order, Council’s statement of reasons for making the order can be viewed online at https://reading.govocal.com/en-GB/. They can also be inspected during office hours by prior appointment only, Monday to Friday at the Civic Offices, from the date of this notice until out of six weeks after the order is made.

If any person wishes to question the validity of the Order or any of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Act, or that any requirement of the Act, or of any instrument made under the Act has not been complied with, that person may, within six weeks from 19 March 2025 apply for that purpose to the High Court.
