What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT ORDER

THE LONDON BOROUGH OF BARKING AND DAGENHAM

(WAKERING ROAD, BARKING) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF VEHICULAR TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025

NOTICE OF MAKING

  1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that in order to facilitate remedial works in the carriageway, the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham has made a Temporary Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

  2. The order is expected to come into effect on Monday 31 March 2025. The works expected for:

    • Remedial works in the carriageway to take 4 days to complete. Completion date estimated as Thursday 3 April 2025, with the work expected to be undertaken at all times.
    • However, the Order will remain in force for 18 months to be re-introduced should further works be required.
  3. When the works are taking place and the appropriate traffic signs are being displayed, the Order will temporarily:

    • Prohibit all vehicular traffic on Wakering Road, both sides, from its junction with Longbridge Road for a distance of 47.5 metres in a north-westerly direction.
    • Prohibit all vehicular traffic (except where marshals have granted access) on Wakering Road, both sides, from a point 47.5 metres north-west of its junction with Longbridge Road for 113.5 metres in a north-westerly direction.
    • Prohibit all vehicular traffic on Gurdwara Road slip road into Wakering Road from a point 9.5 metres west of the rear of the common boundary of Wigham House and Phoenix House Government Offices for a distance of 56.7 metres in a westerly direction.
    • Prohibit all vehicles in the cycle lane on Gurdwara Road, north side, from a point approximately 48.7 metres west of its junction with Wakering Road to a point approximately 80 metres east of its junction with Wakering Road.
    • Prohibit all vehicles in the cycle lane on Gurdwara Road, south side, from its junction with Wakering Road to a point approximately 56.7 metres east of its junction with Wakering Road.

      • Suspend the one-way on Wakering Road, from its junction with Gurdwara Road to its junction with Longbridge Road, to allow for two-way traffic.
      • Prohibit all vehicles from turning left from Wakering Road into Gurdwara Road.
      • Prohibit all vehicles from turning left from London College of Business, Wigham House, Phoenix House Government Offices, and Barking Jobcentre into Longbridge Road.
      • Suspend the pedestrian crossing on Wakering Road at its junction with Longbridge Road.

      1. While this closure is in place, the following locations will temporarily be controlled by:

        • Temporary three-way traffic lights on Gurdwara Road from a point approximately 24 metres west of its junction with Wakering Road,
        • Gurdwara Road at its junction with Wakering Road,
        • Wakering Road from a point 84 metres southwest of its junction with Gurdwara Road.
      2. Alternative routes for vehicular traffic will be maintained and signed:

        • Via Gurdwara Road (eastbound carriageway) and Longbridge Road.
      3. Alternative routes for pedestrians will be maintained and signed:

        • Via the south-eastern footpath of Longbridge Road.
