THE HIGHLAND COUNCIL (A836 DORNOCH BRIDGE - TONGUE - JOHN O'GROATS ROAD) (TEMPORARY CLEARWAY) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is hereby given that The Highland Council, by virtue of the powers conferred under Section 14 (1) (b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, being satisfied that traffic on the length of road specified below should be restricted because of the likelihood of danger to the public has made the above Order temporarily restricting vehicular traffic on A836 Dornoch Bridge - Tongue - John O'Groats Road.

Lengths of road affected by temporary restriction of use
That length of the A836 Dornoch Bridge - Tongue - John O'Groats Road from a point 1150 meters or thereby east of the U1807 Bighouse road junction to a point 1000 metres or thereby west of the Layby at Drumhollistan, a distance of 1000 metres or thereby (hereinafter referred to as “the length of road specified)”.
Temporary restriction on use of a road
From 07:00 hours on 01 April 2025 to 18:00 hours on 09 November 2025 no person may, except upon the direction or with the permission of a police constable in uniform, cause or permit any vehicle to stop at any time on the main carriageway or verge on the length of road specified .
Exemptions
No restriction imposed by the Order applies to a person causing or permitting a vehicle to stop—
A) in any case where the person in control of the vehicle—
a. is required by law to stop,
b. is obliged to stop in order to avoid an accident,
c. is prevented from proceeding by circumstances outwith their control and it is not reasonably practicable for them to drive or move the vehicle,
B) when the vehicle is being used in an emergency for fire brigade, ambulance, police or coastguard purposes.
C) for so long as may be necessary to enable the vehicle to be used in connection with—
a. any building operation or demolition being carried out adjacent to the length of road specified,
b. the removal of any obstruction or potential obstruction to traffic on the length of road specified,
c. the maintenance, improvement or reconstruction of the length of road specified,
d. the laying, erection, placing, maintenance, testing, alteration, repair or removal of any structure, works or apparatus in, on, under, over or adjacent to the length of road specified.
