Westerleigh Road - Temporary Restriction And Prohibition of Traffic For Bridge Replacement
What is happening?

The M4 Motorway (Junction 18 To 19) (Temporary Restriction And Prohibition Of Traffic) Order 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (a) has made an Order on the M4 Motorway South Gloucestershire to allow bridge replacement and associated maintenance to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to take place commencing on or after 21 March 2025 and be completed by 19 June 2026.
The effect of the Order will be to:
(a) impose a mandatory 50 or 60 mph speed limit on the M4:
(i) eastbound from Junction 19 to the B4465 Westerleigh Road overbridge;
(ii) westbound fromthe B4465 Westerleigh Road overbridge to Bromley Heath underbridge;
(iii) eastbound entry slip road at Junction 19;
(b) prohibit vehicles over 3.25 meters in width from the inside and middle lanes of the M4:
(i) eastbound from the eastbound entry slip road at Junction 19 to the B4465 Westerleigh Road overbridge;
(ii) westbound from the B4465 Westerleigh Road overbridge to Bromley Heath underbridge;
(c) prohibit vehicles over 2.65 meters in width from the outside lane of the lengths of the M4 given at (b) above;
(d) authorise the closure overnight (20.00 to 06.00) and weekend closure (Friday 19.00 to Monday 06.00) of:
(i) the M4 eastbound and westbound between Junctions 18 and 19;
(ii) the eastbound entry and westbound exit slip roads at Junction 19;
(iii) the westbound entry and eastbound exit slip roads at Junction 18;
(e) during the closures given at (d) above impose a mandatory 50 or 60 mph speed limit on the M4:
(i) westbound from the Parks Farm access overbridge to Junction 18;
(ii) the westbound exit slip road at Junction 18.
There will also be hard shoulder running through the works.
During the closures traffic will be diverted via junctions of the M4 and local roads.
The speed limit (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles) width restrictions and closures will be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the works.
The Order will come into force on 19 March 2025 and have a maximum duration of 18 months.
