A38 Trunk Road - Temporary Restriction And Prohibition of Traffic For Maintenance Works
What is happening?

The A38 Trunk Road (Saltash) (Temporary Restriction And Prohibition Of Traffic) Order 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (a) intends to make an Order on the A38 trunk road in the Counties of Devon and Cornwall to allow sign installation, resurfacing and associated maintenance works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to take place commencing on or after 26 March 2025 and be completed by 1 November 2025.
The effect of the Order would be:
(a) to impose a mandatory 50 mph speed limit on the A38:
(i) eastbound from the junction with Liskeard Road to 43 metres west of Carkeel Roundabout;
(ii) eastbound from 380 metres east of St Budeaux Junction to 500 east of Weston Mill Junction
(b) to impose a mandatory 30 mph speed limit on:
(i) the A38 eastbound from 43 metres west of Carkeel Roundabout to 25 metres west of South Pill Junction;
(ii) the A38 westbound from 500 east of Weston Mill Junction to 57 metres east of Tamar Bridge Roundabout;
(iii) the eastbound and westbound entry and exit slip roads at St Budeaux Junction and Weston Mill Junction;
(c) to authorise the closure overnight (20.00 to 06.00) of:
(i) the A38 eastbound and westbound between the junction with Stoketon Cross and Carkeel Roundabout;
(ii) the A38 eastbound and westbound between Carkeel Roundabout and Tamar Bridge Junction;
(iii) the A38 westbound from Weston Mill Junction to Tamar Bridge Roundabout;
(iv) the A38 westbound from Forder Valley Junction to Manadon Roundabout;
(v) the westbound entry slip roads at Forder Valley, Weston Mill and St Budeaux Junctions;
(d) to prohibit cyclists from the A38 westbound from St Budeaux Junction to Tamar Bridge Roundabout;
(e) to prohibit vehicles over 3.5 tonnes in weight from the eastbound exit slip road at South Pill Junction. During the closures, traffic would be diverted via junctions of the A38 and local roads.
The closures (which would not apply to emergency service, traffic officer or works vehicles) prohibitions, speed limits, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the works.
The Order would come into force on 26 March 2025 and have a maximum duration of 18 months.
