Canterbury, Multiple Temporary Traffic Regulation Notices

What is happening?

Highways

 

Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.

 

CANTERBURY AREA

 

A28 Ashford Road, Chartham, CT4 7PA (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2025

To allow resurfacing works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of A28 Ashford Road, Chartham, from 7th April 2025, with estimated completion by 12th April 2025, between the hours of 20:00 and 05:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between the junctions with Shalmsford Street and Nickle Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via A28 Ashford Road, Thanington Road, Wincheap, Wincheap Green, A2050 Rheims Way, Harbledown By Pass, Harbledown on slip, A2 Dover Road, Boughton By Pass, A2 London Road, Canterbury Road, A251 Ashford Road, A252 The Street, Maidstone Road, A28 Canterbury Road, A28 Ashford Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

A299 Thanet Way Slip Way & A2990 Thanet Way, Whitstable. (TEMPORARY 40 MPH SPEED RESTRICTION) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2025

To allow Section 278 works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order to impose a temporary mandatory 40 mph speed restriction on part of A299 Thanet Way Slip Way & A2990 Thanet Way, Whitstable, from 12th April 2025, with estimated completion by 12th October 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The 40 mph speed restriction will be imposed on A299 Thanet Way Slip Way & A2990 Thanet Way between the junctions with A299 Thanet Way and Speedwell Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

 

A299 Thanet Way Slip Way, Whitstable, CT5 3BL (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2025

To allow ducting works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of A299 Thanet Way Slip Way, Whitstable, from 7th April 2025, with estimated completion by 12th April 2025, between the hours of 20:00 and 05:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between the junctions with A299 Thanet Way and A291 Canterbury Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via A299 Thanet Way, A291 Canterbury Road and A2990 Thanet Way.

 

B2205 Canterbury Road, Whitstable, CT5 4HS (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025

To allow utility works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of B2205 Canterbury Road, Whitstable, from 27th March 2025, with estimated completion by 29th March 2025, between the hours of 19:00 and 06:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed outside number 54, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic (excluding HGVs & large vehicles) is via B2205 Canterbury Road, Oxford Street, High Street, Horsebridge Road, Sea Street, Harbour Street, Tower Parade, Tankerton Road, Bennells Avenue, Herne Bay Road, A2290 Thanet Way, B2205 Borstal Hill and vice versa.

The alternative route for HGVs and large vehicles is via B2205 Canterbury Road, Oxford Street, High Street, Horsebridge Road, Sea Street, Harbour Street, Tower Parade, Tankerton Road, Bennells Avenue, Herne Bay Road, St John’s Road, Whitstable Road, Sea Street, Greenhill Bridge Road, A2990 Thanet Way, B2205 Borstal Hill and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

B2205 High Street & Beach Street, Herne Bay. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & SUSPENSION OF ONE-WAY ORDER) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2025

To allow sewer cleaning works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of B2205 High Street & Beach Street, Herne Bay, from 6th April 2025, with estimated completion by 21st April 2025, or until the works have been completed.

B2205 High Street

The road will be closed 50m either side of the junction with Beach Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via B2205 High Street, Avenue Road, Sea Street, Greenhill Bridge Road, A2990 Thanet Way, A291 Canterbury Road, High Street and vice versa.

Beach Street

The road will be closed 50m either side of the junction with B2205 High Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for the closure (between Hanover Street and B2205 High Street) is via Hanover Street, Richmond Road then follow B2205 High Street diversion route.

The alternative route for the closure (between Mortimer Street and B2205 High Street) is via Mortimer Street, Richmond Street then follow B2205 High Street diversion route.

The One-Way Order on Beach Street, will be temporarily suspended between the junctions with Hanover Street and Mortimer Street.

 

Archbishops Way Footpath, Canterbury. (PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025

To allow footpath works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting pedestrians on part of Archbishops Way Footpath, Canterbury, from 26th March 2025, with estimated completion by 28th March 2025, or until the works have been completed.

The footpath will be closed between the junction with Lyndhurst Close and the university cycle track, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for pedestrians is via Archbishops Way Footpath, Durnford Close, Salisbury Road, Lyndhurst Close and vice versa.

 

Nethergong Hill, Upstreet. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025

To allow new service connection works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Nethergong Hill, Upstreet, from 30th March 2025, with estimated completion by 2nd April 2025, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of Nethergong Woods, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Nethergong Hill, Sandpit Hill, Church Lane, Boyden Gate Hill, Highstead, Ford Hill, Maypole Lane, Maypole Road, Hoath Road, Babs Oak Hill, A28 Staines Hill, Island Road, The Glen and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Shalloak Road, Broad Oak. CT2 0PR (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2025

To allow remedial works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Shalloak Road, Broad Oak, from 9th April 2025, with estimated completion by 11th April 2025, between the hours of 08:00 and 19:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of the train line, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Vauxhall Road, A28 Sturry Road, Mill Road, A291 Sturry Hill, Herne Bay Road, Sweechgate and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Union Road, Bridge, CT4 5LX (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025

To allow water pipe repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Union Road, Bridge, from 24th March 2025, with estimated completion by 28th March 2025, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed outside number 29, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via High Street, Western Avenue, Mill Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
