Southport New Rd - Temporary Prohibition Of Through Traffic
What is happening?
LANCASHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL
(A565 SOUTHPORT NEW ROAD AND B5246 THE GRAVEL, TARLETON, WEST LANCASHIRE BOROUGH) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF THROUGH TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Lancashire County Council intend to make an Order under Section 14(1) (a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit traffic on the roads set out in this notice.
1. No person shall cause any motor vehicle to proceed over the following lengths of highway in the West Lancashire Borough:-
i. A565 Southport New Road, Tarleton from the eastern side of The Gravel, Tarleton roundabout to the western side of The Gravel, Tarleton roundabout.
ii. B5246 The Gravel, Tarleton from A565 Southport New Road, Tarleton to U4528 The Gravel, Tarleton.
2. Nothing in this order shall apply to persons engaged in the carrying out of the works.
3. The prohibition will be operative nightly between 2000 hours and 0600 hours from Sunday 23rd March 2025 until Sunday 30th March 2025 or until completion of the works within this period. Access for emergency services will be maintained whenever and wherever possible. The prohibitions will only be operative when indicated on site by the presence of the appropriate traffic signs in accordance with The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.
4. Vehicular access for residents will be maintained whenever and wherever possible. Pedestrian access to properties will always be maintained.
5. An alternative route for vehicular traffic affected by the closure of A565 Southport New Road, Tarleton is via:-
A565 Southport New Road, Tarleton – A59 Liverpool Road, Tarleton – A59 Liverpool Road, Rufford – A59 Causeway Lane, Rufford – A59 Moss Lane, Burscough – A59 Liverpool Road North, Burscough – A59 Liverpool Road South, Burscough – A59 High Lane, Ormskirk – A59 County Road, Ormskirk – A570 Southport Road, Ormskirk – A570 Southport Road, Scarisbrick (into Sefton Borough) – A570 Scarisbrick New Road, Sefton Borough – A570 Eastbank Street, Sefton Borough – A565 Lord Street, Sefton Borough – A565 Albert Road, Sefton Borough – A565 Park Crescent, Sefton Borough – A565 Cambridge Road, Sefton Borough – A565 Preston New Road, Sefton – A565 Water Lane, Sefton Borough (into West Lancashire Borough) – A565 Water Lane, Banks – A565 Southport New Road, Banks and vice versa.
6. An alternative route for vehicular traffic affected by the closure of B5246 The Gravel, Tarleton will be signed locally to direct traffic to meet up with the A565 Southport New Road, Tarleton diversion listed under article 5.
The temporary prohibition is necessary to allow carriageway resurfacing works to be carried out by Lancashire County Council.
