CANNING TOWN INDUSTRIAL PARKING ZONE

BIDDER STREET, IVES ROAD, STEPHENSON STREET AND WHARF STREET E16

  1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Newham on 10 March 2025 made the above-mentioned Orders under sections 6, 45, 46, 49 and 124 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.

  2. The effect of the Orders will be to continue in force indefinitely the provisions of the Newham (Canning Town) (Industrial Parking Zone) Experimental Traffic Order 2023.

  3. The above experimental Order introduced an Industrial Parking Zone (IPZ) in the streets specified below in Canning Town, operating from 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday inclusive and the provisions in the IPZ include:

    • ‘Shared use’ parking places (permit holders ICT) and “pay by phone” short-stay parking in Bidder Street, Ives Road, Stephenson Street and Wharf Street; and
    • Waiting restrictions in Bidder Street, Ives Road, Stephenson Street and Wharf Street operating ‘at any time’.

    Vehicles will be able to park in the above-mentioned roads during the operational hours without limit if they have a valid Canning Town IPZ permit or a Business permit. Businesses can choose which permit type they need. Canning Town IPZ permits are only valid in Canning Town IPZ. Business permits are valid in permit holder only bays and ‘shared use’ bays within all IPZs and residential parking zones (RPZs). Permits will be available to all business users and their staff within the IPZ.

    Vehicles without a valid permit may be left during the operational hours for a maximum period of 4 hours (no return within 1 hour) upon payment of the appropriate charge.

  4. Copies of the Orders, which will come into force on 13 March 2025, and documents giving more detailed particulars of the Orders are available for inspection by appointment during normal office hours at Newham Dockside, 1000 Dockside Road E16 2QU, by telephoning 020 3373 6415 or emailing traffic.orders@newham.gov.uk, for a period of six weeks from the date on which the Orders are made.

  5. If any person wishes to question the validity of these Orders or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Act, or that any requirement of the Act or of any instrument made under the Act has not been complied with, that person may, within six weeks from the date on which the Orders are made, apply for the purpose to the High Court.
