Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.
CANTERBURY AREA
A28 Ashford Road, Chartham. (TEMPORARY 30 MPH SPEED RESTRICTION) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow new connection works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order to impose a temporary mandatory 30 mph speed restriction on part of A28 Ashford Road, Chartham, from 17th March 2025, with estimated completion by 21st March 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The temporary mandatory 30 mph speed restriction on A28 Ashford Road, Chartham will be imposed in the vicinity of The Firs, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
A257 Littlebourne Road, Canterbury, CT1 1RD (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2025
To allow utility works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of A257 Littlebourne Road, Canterbury, from 5th April 2025, for up to one night, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed between numbers 13 and 18, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via A257 Littlebourne Road, Canterbury Road, The Hill, High Street, Wingham Road, Canterbury Road, High Street, Gobbery Hill, Roman Road, Ash Bypass, A256 Sandwich Bypass, Ramsgate Road, Richborough Way, A299 Hengist Way, Canterbury Road West, A253 Canterbury Road, Ramsgate Road, A28 Canterbury Road, Island Road, Staines Hill, Island Road, Mill Road, Sturry Road, Tourtel Road, Military Road, Broad Street, A2050 St George’s Place, A257 Lower Chantry Lane, Longport, St Martin’s Hill and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
B2205 Tankerton Road, Ellis Road & Bennells Avenue, Whitstable. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & RIGHT TURNS) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2025
To allow heavy jetting works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of B2205 Tankerton Road, Ellis Road & Bennells Avenue, Whitstable from 1st April 2025, with estimated completion by 3rd April 2025, between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00, or until the works have been completed.
B2205 Tankerton Road will be closed, eastbound only, at the junction with Bennells Avenue, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Pier Avenue and Marine Parade.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Turning right will be prohibited from Ellis Road & Bennells Avenue onto B2205 Tankerton Road for the duration of the works.
Anvil Green Road, Waltham, CT4 5RY (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Anvil Green Road, Waltham, from 19th March 2025, for up to one day, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed between the junctions with Penny Pot Lane and Kake Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Anvil Green Road, Richdore Road, Kake Street and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Athol Road, Whitstable, CT5 2EW (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow drainage repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Athol Road, Whitstable, from 31st March 2025, with estimated completion by 4th April 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed at the junction with Clare Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Clare Road, Northwood Road, Baliol Road, Athol Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Barley Close, Herne, CT6 7XG (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow excavation works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on Barley Close, Herne, from 18th March 2025, with estimated completion by 21st March 2025, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Bonny Bush Hill, Kingston. (TEMPORARY 30 MPH SPEED RESTRICTION) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2025
To allow drainage repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order to impose a temporary mandatory 30 mph speed restriction on Bonny Bush Hill, Kingston, from 1st April 2025, for up to one day, or until the works have been completed.
The temporary 30 mph speed restriction on Bonny Bush Hill will be imposed for the entire length, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
Bridge Road, Bridge. CT4 5AL (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow safety inspection works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Bridge Road, Bridge, from 31st March 2025, for up to one day, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed at the railway bridge, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via B2068 Nackington Road, Old Dover Road, A2050 Dover Road, A2, Bekesbourne Road, Town Hill, Station Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Chartham Downs Road, Chartham, CT4 7TW (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow overhead cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Chartham Downs Road, Chartham, from 21st March 2025, for up to one day, between the hours of 08:00 and 17:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed outside Cherry Lodge, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Chartham Downs Road, B2068 Street End, Faussett Hill, Nackington Road, Old Dover Road, A28 Rhodaus Town, Pin Hill, Wincheap Green, Wincheap, Thanington Road, Ashford Road, Milton Manor Road, Cockering Road, Chartham Downs Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Church Lane, Barham. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING)
TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2025
To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Church Lane, Barham, from 1st April 2025, for up to one day, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed from the junction with A260 Old Dover Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Church Lane, Gravel Castle Road, A260 Old Dover Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Garlinge Green Road, Garlinge Green, CT4 7TP (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic, in phases, on part of Garlinge Green Road, Garlinge Green, from 31st March 2025, for up to one day, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.
Phase 1
Garlinge Green Road will be closed from the junction with Chartham Downs Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for through traffic is via Garlinge Green Road, Chartham Downs Road, Kenfield Road, Garlinge Green Road and vice versa.
Phase 2
Garlinge Green Road will be closed from the junction with Kenfield Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for through traffic is via Garlinge Green Road, Kenfield Road, Chartham Downs Road, Redhouse Lane, B2068 Stone Street, Town Road, Vicarage Hill and vice versa.
Grove Ferry Road, Wickhambreaux, CT3 4BP (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2025
To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Grove Ferry Road, Wickhambreaux, from 1st April 2025, with estimated completion by 2nd April 2025, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed from the junction with Grove Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic (excluding vehicles over 7.5 tonne) is via Grove Ferry Road, Grove Road, Stourmouth Road, Preston Road, The Street, Plucks Gutter, Gore Street, A253 Ramsgate Road, A28 Canterbury Road, Island Road, Grove Ferry Hill and vice versa.
The alternative route for vehicles over 7.5 tonne is via Grove Ferry Road, Grove Road, The Street, Preston Lane, Preston Road, Preston Hill, A257 Goberry Hill, Roman Road, Pedding Hill, Ash Bypass, Sandwich Road, Each End, A256 Sandwich Bypass, Ramsgate Road, Richborough Way, A299 Hengist Way, Canterbury Road West, A253 Canterbury Road and A28 Canterbury Road, Island Road and vice versa.
Harvest Court, Herne, CT6 7XG (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow excavation works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Harvest Court, Herne, from 20th March 2025, with estimated completion by 26th March 2025, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed between numbers 14 and 2, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
High Street & King Street, Fordwich. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2025
To allow building repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of High Street & King Street, Fordwich, from 1st April 2025, with estimated completion by 30th September 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The roads will be closed 16m along High Street, from the junction with King Street travelling southwards, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
Please note, the roads will not be closed at the same time.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via High Street, Moat Lane, Stodmarsh Road, A257 Littlebourne Road, St Martin’s Hill, Longport, Lower Chantry Lane, A2050 St George’s Place, A28 Lower Bridge Street, Broad Street, Military Road, Tourtel Road, Sturry Road, Mill Road, Water Lane, Fordwich Road, King Street and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Hoath Road, Hoath, CT3 4JR (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow utility works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Hoath Road, Hoath, from 19th March 2025, for up to one day, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed in the vicinity of Bredlands Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Babs Oak Hill, A28 Staines Hill, Island Road, The Glen, Nethergong Hill, Sandpit Hill, Church Lane, Boyden Gate Hill, Highstead, Ford Hill, Maypole Road, Hoath Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Palace Street, Canterbury, CT1 2EX (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER APRIL 2025
To allow utility works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Palace Street, Canterbury, from 4th April 2025, with estimated completion by 11th April 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed outside flat number 25, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route southbound is via Palace Street, Borough, St Radigunds Street, Knott’s Lane, King Street and Orange Street.
The alternative route northbound is via Orange Street and King Street.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
St Stephens Road, Canterbury, CT2 7JE (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow level crossing works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of St Stephens Road, Canterbury, from 23:30 hours on 17th March 2025, with estimated completion by 05:15 hours on 18th March 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed 20m either side of the level crossing, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via St Stephens Road, St Stephen’s Hill, Beaconsfield Road, Forty Acres Road, A290 Whitstable Road, St Dunstans Street, B2248 Station Road West and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Various Roads, Canterbury. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow footway and carriageway improvement works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of various roads throughout Canterbury.
This order takes effect on or after 17th March 2025, with estimated completion by 13th February 2026, or where stated on valid permits. The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signage displayed on site and the works will be displayed on One.Network.
Works Schedule
A290 St Dunstans Street & A290 St Peter’s Place, Canterbury
The roads will be closed between St Dunstans Roundabout and the junction with Tower Way in a southerly direction only, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for through traffic is via A290 St Dunstans Street, London Road, A2050 Rheims Way and A290 St Peter’s Place.
Due to a change in sequence, the works on 1st June could now result in the alternative diversion being implemented on this closure, between the hours of 07:00 and 19:00. The alternative route for through traffic is via North Lane, B2248 St Stephen’s Road, Kingsmead Road, A28 Tourtel Road, Military Road, Broad Street, Lower Bridge Street, Upper Bridge Street, Rhodaus Town, Pin Hill, A2050 Rheims Way and St Peter’s Place.
The environmental weight limit on the B2248 Station Road West & St Stephen’s Road (between B2248 Station Road West & Kingsmead Road) will be suspended for the duration of the works.
St Peters Street, Canterbury
The road will be closed at junction with A290 St Peter’s Place, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for through traffic is via St Peters Street, The Friars, Orange Street, Palace Street, Borough, Northgate, B2248 Kingsmead Road, St Stephen’s Road, North Lane and then follow local diversion.
A290 St Peter’s Place & A290 St Dunstans Street, Canterbury
The roads will be closed between the junction with Tower Way and St Dunstans roundabout, in a northerly direction only, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for through traffic is via A290 St Peter’s Place, A2050 Rheims Way, London Road and A290 St Dunstans Street.
Due to a change in sequence, the works on 1st June could now result in the alternative diversion being implemented on this closure, between the hours of 07:00 and 19:00. The alternative route for through traffic is via St Peter’s Place, A2050 Rheims Way, A28 Pin Hill, Rhodaus Town, Upper Bridge Street, Lower Bridge Street, Broad Street, Military Road, Tourtel Road, B2248 Kingsmead Road, St Stephen’s Road and North Lane.

St Peter’s Lane, Canterbury
The road will be closed at the junction with St Radigunds Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for through traffic Northbound is via St Peter’s Lane, St Peters Street, The Friars, Orange Street, Palace Street, Borough, Northgate, St Radigunds Street.
The alternative route for through traffic Southbound is via St Radigunds Street, Knott’s Lane, King Street, Palace Street, Orange Street, The Friars, St Peters Street and St Peter’s Lane.
Church Lane, Canterbury
The road will be closed between the junctions with Stour Street and St Mary’s Court, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.
Stour Street, Canterbury
Phase 1 - The road will be closed between the junctions with Rosemary Lane and Beer Cart Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for through traffic is via Rosemary Lane, Castle Street, Beer Cart Lane and vice versa.
Phase 2 - The road will be closed between the junctions with Beer Cart Lane and High Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for through traffic is via Beer Cart Lane, Watling Street, Rose Lane, Parade, High Street and vice versa.
