ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14

THE M6 MOTORWAY (JUNCTIONS 40-39 CARRIAGEWAY) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M6 Motorway, in the Unitary Local Authority of Westmorland and Furness, in the County of Cumbria, to enable resurfacing works, and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety.

The Order will on the following sections of the M6 Motorway:

i. impose a 50-mph speed limit on the southbound carriageway, from a point 175 metres north of Mayburgh Bridge, to a point 275 metres south of Bainbridge Gate Bridge;

ii. allow the hard shoulder adjacent to the southbound carriageway (as described at i. above) to be used as a running lane. A 50-mph speed limit will be in force on the hard shoulder when used as a running lane.

Restriction i. is expected to be in place during a continuous period starting at 19:00 on Tuesday 1 April 2025 and ending at 06:00 on Tuesday 29 April 2025.

Restriction ii. is expected to take place overnight between 19:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Monday 14 April 2025 and ending on Tuesday 29 April 2025.

However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights, or during subsequent continuous periods, until completed.

The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles and will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, from time to time, be indicated by traffic signs. The Order comes into force on 31 March 2025 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months. For further information contact sam.smith@nationalhighways.co.uk
