What is happening?

BOROUGH OF ROCHDALE
(MANCHESTER ROAD A664, ROCHDALE) (RESERVED CYCLE LANE) (24- HOUR) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Rochdale Borough Council on 13th February 2025, in exercise of its powers under Sections 1(1), 2 and 4 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, has made the above named Order, the effect of which is to reserve the below referenced sections of Road for 24-hour use by Pedal Cycles, signed in accordance with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016, within which Pedal Cycles are authorised by this Order to proceed in the direction so specified:-

Manchester Road (A664), Castleton Ward
n(i) Along the west side in a northerly direction from a point 143 metres north east of its junction with Nixon Street to its junction with Bolton Road
n(ii) Within the central traffic island south-west of its junction with Silk Street for a distance of 20 metres in a southerly direction
n(iii) Along the east side in a southerly direction from its junction with Tomlinson Street to a point 228 metres southwest of its junction with Gipsy Lane “Pedal Cycle” has the same meaning as in Schedule 1 of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.

A copy of the Order and a plan showing the lengths of road concerned, together with a Statement of Reasons for making the Order, may be viewed on the Council’s website www.rochdale.gov.uk/roads, or by phoning Highways on 0300 303 8879 to request a copy via post.

If you wish to question the validity of any of the Order or provisions contained therein on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order, you may within six weeks from 13th February 2025 apply to the High Court for this purpose.
