Heathey Lane - Temporary Prohibition of Through Traffic to Allow Waterproofing and Repair Works

What is happening?

LANCASHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL
(B5243 HEATHEY LANE AND B5243 BIRKDALE COP, HALSALL, WEST LANCASHIRE BOROUGH) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF THROUGH TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Lancashire County Council have made an Order under Section 14(1) (a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit traffic on the roads set out in this notice.

1. No person shall cause any motor vehicle to proceed over the following lengths of highway in the West Lancashire Borough:-

i. B5243 Heathey Lane, Halsall from B5243 Jacksmere Lane, Halsall to B5243 Birkdale Cop, Halsall.

ii. B5243 Birkdale Cop, Halsall from B5243 Heathey Lane, Halsall to southeastern side of Boundary Brook Bridge.

2. Nothing in this order shall apply to persons engaged in the carrying out of the works.

3. The prohibition will be operative from 0800 hours on Monday 10th February 2025 until 1630 hours on Friday 7th March 2025 or until completion of the works within this period. Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

4. Vehicular access for residents will be maintained whenever and wherever possible. Pedestrian access to properties will always be maintained.

5. An alternative route for vehicular traffic affected by these closures is via:- B5243 Birkdale Cop, Halsall – B5243 Moss Road, Halsall (into Sefton Borough) – B5243 Moss Road, Sefton Borough – B5243 Guildford Road, Sefton Borough – B5243 Kew Road, Sefton Borough – A5267 Eastbourne Road, Sefton Borough – A5267 Cemetery Road, Sefton Borough – A5267 Ash Street, Sefton Borough – A570 Scarisbrick New Road, Sefton Borough (into West Lancashire Borough) – A570 Southport Road, Scarisbrick – B5243 Jacksmere Lane, Halsall and vice versa.

The temporary prohibition is necessary to allow waterproofing and repair works to the former railway bridge to be carried out by Hatton Traffic Management in conjunction with National Highways - Historic Railways Estate.
