NOTICE OF INTENTION TO APPLY FOR AN ORDER STOPPING UP A HIGHWAY UNDER SECTION 116 HIGWAYS ACT 1980

Notice is given that Reading Borough Council as Highway Authority intends to apply to Reading Magistrates' Court sitting at Civic Centre, Castle Street, Reading RG1 7TQ on Friday 28 March 2025 at 2pm for an order under Section 116 of the Highways Act 1980 authorising the stopping up of an area of the highway located next at Garrard Street of an approximate size of 0.00029235 hectare as shown outlined red on plan ref GIS00677, on the grounds that the highway is unnecessary. The effect of the Order will be to extinguish all public rights of way over the said land.

A copy of the draft order and Plan may be inspected free of charge by prior appointment at the Council offices at Civic Offices Civic Centre Reading RG1 2LU between the hours of 10.00am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays and public holidays) from 20 February - 21 March 2025. Any person to whom this Notice has been given or who uses the highway specified or who would be aggrieved by the making of the Order may appear before the Magistrates' Court to raise an objection or make a representation on the application. Any person intending to appear before the Magistrates' Court at the hearing of the application is requested to inform Patricia Tavernier at patricia.tavernier@reading.gov.uk before 28 March 2025 quoting reference PT/028071.
