What is happening?

THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (NORTH ROAD AREA, HETTON-LE-HOLE) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025


Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 18th February 2025 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all vehicle, cycle, horse and pedestrian traffic from the sections of carriageways and footways described in the schedule.
The Order is required to allow for culvert maintenance works. The order come into force on 19th February 2025. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be six months. However, it is expected that each section of highway will be closed for a maximum of 4 weeks. All vehicles, horses, cyclists and pedestrians will be prohibited from the sections of carriageways and footways described in the schedule (except for personnel involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An alternative route will be provided via the adjacent highways network.
Schedule: North Road from its junction with Station Road to and including its junction with Wear Street; Wear Street from its junction with North Road to and including its junction with Springwell Terrace North Back; Springwell Terrace North Back from the extended party property boundary of 4 and 5 Springwell Terrace to its northwestern extent; Coronation Terrace North Back for its entire extent; Station Road West Back from and including its junction with Back Coronation Terrace to its southeastern extent; and The Crescent – Service area, from its junction with the Crescent for its entire extent.
