What is happening?
HIGHWAYS
Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.
CANTERBURY AREAS
A2050 Harbledown Bypass & Chartham Hatch Road, Harbledown (PROHIBITION OF RIGHT TURNS) TEMPORARY ORDER FEBRUARY 2025
To allow signage works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of A2050 Harbledown Bypass & Chartham Hatch Road, Harbledown from turning right, from 19:00 hours on 24th February 2025, with estimated completion by 07:00 hours on 25th February 2025, or until the works have been completed.
Turning right will be prohibited from A2050 Harbledown Bypass onto Chartham Hatch Road.
The alternative route for through traffic is to continue along A2050 Harbledown Bypass and take a u-turn at the roundabout.
Turning right will be prohibited from Chartham Hatch Road, onto A2050 Harbledown Bypass, in the vicinity of Faulkners Lane.
The alternative route for through traffic is via Church Hill, Summer Hill and A2050 Harbledown Bypass.
A2990 Thanet Way & A299 Thanet Way Slip Way, Whitstable. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow the Strategic Roads Refining Programme to take place, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of A2990 Thanet Way & A299 Thanet Way Slip Way, Whitstable, from 10th March 2025, with estimated completion by 15th March 2025, between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00, or until the works have been completed.
The roads will be closed between the junction with A299 Thanet Way Whitstable Off Slip and the A290 roundabout, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for A299 Thanet Way, eastbound is via A299 Thanet Way, A291 Canterbury Road and A2990 Thanet Way.
The alternative route for A2990 Thanet Way is via B2205 Borstal Hill, Joy Lane, Faversham Road and Church Lane.
Cornwall Gardens, Canterbury, CT1 1RT (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow excavation works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Cornwall Gardens, Canterbury, from 26th March 2025, with estimated completion by 4th April 2025, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed between number 26 Sussex Avenue and number 14 Cornwall Gardens, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Hilary Close Path, Herne Bay. (PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow utility works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting pedestrians on Hilary Close Path, Herne Bay, from 10th March 2025, with estimated completion by 14th March 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The footpath will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for pedestrians is via Grange Road, Reculver Road, Sea View Road and vice versa.
School Lane, Ickham, CT3 1QU (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow water pipe repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of School Lane, Ickham, from 12th March 2025, with estimated completion by 18th March 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed outside number 4, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Wingham Lane, A257 Canterbury Road, Cherville Lane and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Shalmsford Street, Chartham, CT4 7RP (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow drainage works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Shalmsford Street, Chartham, from 2nd March 2025, for up to one day, between the hours of 06:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed 10m either side of the railway bridge, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Shalmsford Street, Bolts Hill, Parish Road, The Green, Station Road, A28 Ashford Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Thruxted Lane, Chartham, CT4 7SA (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER FEBRUARY 2025
To allow new service connection works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Thruxted Lane, Chartham, from 26th February 2025, with estimated completion by 28th February 2025, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed outside Underdown Orchard Nursery, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Thruxted Lane, Bobbin Lodge Hill, Shalmsford Street, Chartham Downs Road, Mystole Lane, Thruxted Lane and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Whitehall Road, Harbledown. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER MARCH 2025
To allow rail inspection works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Whitehall Road, Harbledown, from 2nd March 2025, with estimated completion by 3rd March 2025, between the hours of 02:00 and 04:30, or until the works have been completed.
The road will be closed 20m either side of Whitehall Level Crossing, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
Various Roads, Canterbury - Preservation Treatment (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & TEMPORARY SPEED RESTRICTIONS) TEMPORARY ORDER FEBRUARY 2025
To allow the Surface Preservation Scheme to take place, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on various roads in Canterbury. This Order takes effect on or after 27th February 2025, with estimated completion by 26th August 2026. It may be necessary for some of the roads to be closed on multiple occasions for each phase of the works. Planned dates will be published in advance of the works on One.Network and indicated by signage displayed on site 14 days before they start.
After the Surface Treatment works are complete, temporary speed restrictions of 40 mph & 20 mph may be imposed for a period of up to 7 days, these will be clearly indicated by relevant signs displayed on site.
These works are subject to weather conditions and other factors which may potentially cause changes at short notice. Every effort will be made to keep as close as possible to the planned dates and any changes will be publicised.

Gravel Castle Road, Barham
The road will be closed between the junctions with Church Lane and A290 Old Dover Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via A260 Old Dover Road, Church Lane and vice versa.
Church Lane, Barham
The road will be closed between the junctions with Gravel Castle Road and A260 Old Dover Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via Gravel Castle Road, A260 Old Dover Road and vice versa.
Sandpit Hill & Nethergong Hill, Upstreet
The roads will be closed between the junctions with The Glen and Hollow Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via Church Lane, Boyden Gate Hill, Highstead, Ford Hill, Maypole Road, Hoath Road, Babs Oak Hill, A28 Staines Hill, Island Road, The Glen, Nethergong Hill and vice versa.
Hoath Road, Hoath
The road will be closed between the junctions with Bredlands Lane and Hawe Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via Bredlands Lane, A28 Island Road, Staines Hill, Babs Oak Hill and vice versa.
Church Road, Hoath
The road will be closed between the junctions with Hoath Road and Marley Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via Church Road, School Lane, Maypole Lane, Maypole Road and vice versa.
Church Hill, Harbledown
The road will be closed between the junction with Chartham Hatch Road and The Mint, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via Chartham Hatch Road, A2050 Harbledown Bypass, London Road Roundabout, Harbledown Bypass, Summer Hill, Church Hill and vice versa.
Grove Road, Wickhambreaux
The road will be closed between the junction with Stodmarsh Road and The List, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via Grove Road, The Street, Preston Lane, Preston Road, Preston Hill, A257 High Street, Canterbury Road, Wingham Road, High Street, Nargate Street, Wickham Road, Grove Road and vice versa.
Bekesbourne Lane West of Bekesbourne Hill, Bekesbourne & Bekesbourne Lane, Canterbury
The roads will be closed between the junctions with Bekesbourne Hill and A257 Littlebourne Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via A257 Littlebourne Road, Canterbury Road, The Hill, High Street, Bekesbourne Lane, Bekesbourne Hill and vice versa.
Mystole Lane, Chartham
The road will be closed between the junctions with Chartham Downs Road and Penny Pot Lane, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via Mystole Lane, Thruxted Lane, Bobbin Lodge Hill, Shalmsford Street, Chartham Downs Road and vice versa.
