Borough of Sandwell -(Smethwick, Tipton, West Bromwich) - Various Traffic Restrictions

What is happening?

SANDWELL METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Borough Council of Sandwell (Capethorn Road, Smethwick)
(Temporary Road Closure) and (Capethorn Road, Smethwick)
(Temporary One-Way Suspension) Order 2025
intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Capethorn Road at the junction of Bearwood Road. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via Bearwood Road, Pearman Road and Waterloo Road. The existing one-way operation of Capethorn Road in an easterly direction will be suspended and temporary two-way operation introduced for entry/egress to Capethorn Road via Waterloo Road for the duration of the works. The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to commence and be completed by 23/02/2025. Purpose – to facilitate access to repair/replace a defective manhole frame and cover by Severn Trent Water.

The Borough Council of Sandwell (Downing Street, Smethwick)
(Temporary Road Closure) Order 2025
intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Downing Street, which will be closed between the junctions of Lewisham Road and King Street (western side). Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via King Street, Pope Street and vice-versa. The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to commence and be completed by 23/02/25 (8am - 5:30pm). Purpose – to facilitate access to rectify a reinstatement defect by Cadent Gas Ltd.

The Borough Council of Sandwell (Sedgley Road East, Tipton)
(Temporary Road Closure) Order 2025
intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Sedgley Road East, which will be closed from the junction of Mayfair Gardens (eastern side) to the access road for the Coneygre Centre (eastern side). Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via Sedgley Road East, Dudley Port, Burnt Tree, Birmingham New Road, Dudley Road, High Street, Park Lane West and vice-versa. The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to be completed by 28/02/2025 effective from 24/02/2025 (8pm - 5am each evening/morning). Purpose – to facilitate access for a lift shaft installation for the Midland Metro by the Midland Metro Alliance.

The Borough Council of Sandwell (Church Lane, West Bromwich)
(Temporary One-Way Road Closure) (Brett Street and Byron Street, West Bromwich)
(Temporary Road Closures) and (Ridgeacre Road, West Bromwich)
(Temporary No Right Turn Restrictions at both junctions with Church Lane) Order 2025
intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Church Lane one-way in a westerly direction between the junctions of Small Street (western side) and Brett Street (western side) and Brett Street and Byron Street, which will be subject to full closures at the junction of Church Lane. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. A traffic diversion route for the Church Lane one-way road closure will be signed via Vicarage Road, Heath Lane, Walsall Road, Lyndhurst Road, Hollyhedge Road, All Saints Way, The Expressway and Old Meeting Street. Access to Brett Street and Byron Street will be signed via Small Street. The order intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from a right turning movement from Ridgeacre Road to Church Lane (at both junctions). The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to be completed by 08/04/2025 effective from 26/02/2025. Purpose – to facilitate access for gas service works by Cadent Gas Ltd.

The Borough Council of Sandwell (Grove Street, Smethwick) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2025 intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Grove Street, which will be closed at the junction of Grove Lane. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via Dudley Street, Halberton Road and vice-versa. The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to commence and be completed by 25/02/2025 (9:30am - 3:30pm). Purpose – to facilitate access for the use of a mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) to carry out testing/ maintenance works on a telegraph pole by Ericsson.
