What is happening?

LONDON BOROUGH OF NEWHAM

HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 & ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

OLYMPIC PARK AVENUE E20 AND TEMPLE MILL LANE E20 – PROPOSED RAISED TABLES, NEW PARALLEL PEDESTRIAN / CYCLE CROSSINGS AND NEW COPENHAGEN STYLE CROSSING

  1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, in pursuance of the Highways Act 1980 (Section 90A-90F), the Council of the London Borough of Newham proposes to construct raised tables (road humps) in:

    (a) Olympic Park Avenue E20 – the raised table would be located at a point 5.3 metres south of a point opposite the southern building line of Audax Heights, No.11 Olympic Park Avenue, would extend southward for a total distance of 34.6 metres (including the ramps) and would also extend into Honour Lea Avenue for a total distance of 8.2 metres (including the ramps); and

    (b) Temple Mill Lane E20 – the raised table would be located at a point 19.4 metres south of the southern kerb-line of Abercrombie Road and would extend northward for a total distance of 32 metres including the ramps.

    The raised tables would be constructed and deployed in accordance with the Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999. The raised tables would be 75 mm in height and the ramps on each side would have a gradient of 1 in 15.

  2. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN under Section 23 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 that the Council of the London Borough of Newham has approved:

    (a) The provision of a new pedestrian ‘toucan’ crossing in Olympic Park Avenue on the proposed raised table referred to in 1(a) above. The associated zig-zag markings will extend 16.8 metres on either side. The crossing facility will provide a safe crossing point for pedestrians and cyclists; and

    (b) The provision of a new pedestrian zebra crossing in Temple Mill Lane on the proposed raised table referred to in 1(b) above. The associated zig-zag markings will extend northward by 21.2 metres and southward by 16.6 metres. The crossing facility will provide a safe crossing point for pedestrians.

  3. NOTICE IS ALSO HEREBY GIVEN that, in pursuance of the Highways Act 1980 (Section 90A-90F), the Council proposes to install a Copenhagen Style blended crossing in Abercrombie Road at its junction with Temple Mill Lane (shared highway and footway space for moving vehicles and pedestrians). This would be a continuous section of footway, between 75 mm and 100 mm higher at its highest point than the surrounding carriageway, or at an equal level with the surrounding footway and extending across the full width of the carriageway. It will have a length of up to 10 metres including the ramp, which will have a gradient between 1:10 and 1:15.
