Dorset – Multiple Traffic Notices, Temporary Road Closures, and a Proposed Puffin Crossing Installation
What is happening?

Temporary Closure Of B3143, Piddletrenthide
DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along B3143, PIDDLETRENTHIDE between Church Lane and Sun Lane (in both directions), a distance of approximately 2020 metres. The order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 17th February 2025 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 7th March 2025. The road will be closed 24/7 for the first week of works during the Spring Half Term and for the remainder of the works the road closure will be in operation between 09:30 and 15:00.
This Order will provide Wessex Internet with a safe working area to install fibre infrastructure.
An alternative vehicular route will be signed using B3143, B3150, A35, A37, A352, A3030 and vice versa.

Temporary Closure Of Public Footpath S33/12 & S33/13, Osmington
DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All pedestrians, horse riders and cyclists will be prohibited from proceeding along Various Footpaths, Osmington as listed {i} Public Footpath S33/13, Osmington from grid reference SY 7354 8174 to grid reference SY 7338 8175 a distance of approximately 90 metres. {ii} Footpath S33/12, Osmington from grid reference SY 7354 8174 to grid reference SY 7354 8166 a distance of approximately 100 metres. The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 11 February 2025 for a period of 26 weeks, but it may be extended with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport, if necessary.
This closure is needed due to the path being unsafe due to land slip.

Temporary Closure Of West Street & Lower Street, Winterborne Stickland
DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along West Street, Winterborne Kingston from outside West Down Barn, West Street and Sunnyside Farm, Lower Street (in both directions), a distance of approximately 840 metres. The order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 24th February 2025 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 5th March 2025.
This Order will provide Openreach engineers with a safe working area to lay ducting.
The alternative vehicular route, which will be sign posted is indicated by the blue line on the map below.

Temporary Closure Of Edward Road, Dorchester
DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along Edward Road, Dorchester between its junctions with Weymouth Avenue and Coburg Road, a distance of approximately 60 metres. The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 11 February 2025 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 16 May 2025.
This Order will enable Dorset Council to provide a compound area to facilitate works at Maumbury Cross and will also reduce disruption at this junction.
A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed sections.

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 – Section 23
Proposed Crossing – Putton Lane, Chickerell
Dorset Council in exercise of powers under Section 23 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 intends to install a new signalled puffin crossing along Putton Lane, Chickerell, approximately 20 metres from where its joins Glennie Way.
