What is happening?

Transport for London PUBLIC NOTICE:

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

THE A11 GLA ROAD (BOW ROUNDABOUT, LONDON BOROUGH OF TOWER HAMLETS) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025

  1. Transport for London hereby gives notice that it intends to make the above-named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.

  2. Purpose of the Order:

    • To enable carriageway resurfacing and line marking works.

  3. Effect of the Order:

    • The Order will prohibit any vehicle from:

      1. Entering or proceeding on the unnamed northbound on-slip road connecting Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach with Bow Roundabout.

      2. Entering or proceeding on the unnamed northbound off-slip road connecting Bow Roundabout with Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach.

      3. Entering or proceeding on Bow Road between its junctions with Bow Flyover and Bow Roundabout.

      4. Entering or proceeding on the unnamed southbound on-slip road connecting Bow Roundabout with Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach.

      5. Entering or proceeding on the unnamed southbound off-slip road connecting Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach with Bow Roundabout.

      6. Entering or proceeding on Bow Roundabout between its junctions with the unnamed southbound on-slip road connecting Bow Roundabout with Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach and the unnamed southbound off-slip road connecting Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach with Bow Roundabout.

      7. Entering or proceeding on Bow Roundabout between its junctions with the unnamed northbound on-slip road connecting Bow Roundabout with Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach and the unnamed northbound off-slip road connecting Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach with Bow Roundabout.

    • The Order will also permit all vehicles to:

      8. Turn right from Fairfield Road at its junction with Bow Road.

      9. Turn right from Payne Road at its junction with Bow Road (vehicles will be marshalled).

      10. Two-way operation on Bow Road between its junctions with Payne Road and Bow Flyover (vehicles will be marshalled).

      11. U-turn from Bow Road westbound into Bow Flyover eastbound (vehicles will be marshalled).

Timing of Works:

  • Works will be phased, so some restrictions will apply only at certain times.

  • The Order will be effective between 24th February 2025 and 24th August 2025 every night 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, or until works are completed, whichever is sooner.

  • The prohibitions will apply only during such times and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs.

  • Exemptions:

    • The prohibitions will not apply to:

      • Emergency vehicles (fire brigade, ambulance, or police).

      • Vehicles operating under police or Transport for London direction.

        5. At such times as the prohibitions are in force alternative routes will be indicated by traffic signs.

        (1) For Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach northbound to Bow Roundabout via Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach, East Cross Route, the unnamed northbound off-slip road connecting East Cross Route to Wick Lane, Wick Lane, the unnamed southbound on-slip road connecting Wick Lane to East Cross Route, East Cross Route, Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach and the unnamed southbound off-slip road connecting Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach to Bow Roundabout to normal route of travel;

        (2) For Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach southbound to Bow Roundabout via Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach, Brunswick Road off-slip road, East India Road, St Leonard’s Road, Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach and the unnamed northbound off-slip road connecting Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach to Bow Roundabout to normal route of travel;

        (3) For Bow Road to Bow Roundabout/ Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach to Bow Road via Bow Flyover, High Street north-eastbound, Rick Roberts Way, Rick Roberts Way Roundabout, Rick Roberts Way north-westbound and High Street south-westbound to normal route of travel;

        (4) For High Street westbound to Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach via Bow Flyover, Bow Road, Burdett Road and East India Dock Road to normal route of travel.

        (5) For East Cross Route southbound to High Street via Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach, Brunswick Road off-slip road, East India Dock Road, Newham Way, Prince Regent Lane, Greengate Street, The Broadway, High Street, Plaistow Road, New Plaistow Road, West Ham Lane and Tramway Avenue to normal route of travel.
