The Order will come into force from 27–29 January 2025. The Order is necessary to facilitate service pipe repair works. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout.

(THE ORBIT FOOTBRIDGE)

(TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE) ORDER 2025

Reading Borough Council has made an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which is to temporarily close the entire length of the Orbit Footbridge (also known as King's Reach Bridge), which crosses the River Kennet from a location behind Queens Road Car Park to Crane Wharf. The Order will come into force from 31 January 2025 for a period of six months. Should the works to strengthen the bridge take longer than expected the closure will remain in force for up to 18 months or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier. The order is necessary because of the likelihood of danger as the bridge is unsafe.

If made, the Order will come into force from 3–21 February 2025. Should the works take longer than expected the restrictions will remain in force until the works are completed with a maximum order duration of 18 months. The Order is necessary to facilitate highways and drainage maintenance and repair works.
