NATIONAL HIGWAYS

M27 MOTORWAY – JUNCTIONS 8 TO 11
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M27 Motorway in the County of Hampshire, under Sections 14(1)(a) and 15(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are
proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order would be to:-
1. authorise the closure of – (a) both carriageways of the M27 between
Junction 9 (A27) and Junction 11 (A27), and all slip roads leading to and from
said carriageways; and
(b) any Emergency Refuge Area adjacent to the lengths of carriageway described in (a) above.
2. impose a 24-hour 50mph speed limit on – (a) the eastbound carriageway of the M27 between the centre point of Junction
8 (A3024) and a point approximately 512 metres east of the centreline of the
eastern overbridge at Junction 11 (A27); (b) the westbound carriageway of the
M27 between a point approximately 160 metres west of the centreline of
Skew Road overbridge and a point approximately 50 metres west of the
centreline of the eastern overbridge at Junction 9 (A27); (c) the road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 9 (A27); and
(d) the roads leading to both carriageways of the M27 at Junction 11 (A27).
3. authorise impose a 24-hour 40mph speed limit on – (a) the road leading from the eastbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 9 (A27); and (b) the roads leading from the westbound carriageway and to the eastbound
carriageway of the M27 at Junction 10 (A32); and (c) the road leading from the westbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 11 (A27).
There will also be lane closures and narrowed lanes not requiring the cover of an order. These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake junction improvement works including adding two new
slips and all associated work.
It is expected that the work would last for approximately 1 1/2 years starting on or after Monday 3rd March 2025, but provision has been made for a longer duration under Section 15(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act. See below.
The overnight carriageway closures would take place between 21:00 hours and 06:00. Please see National Highways website for details.
The Order would come into force on 1st March 2025 and continue until completion of the works, at which point the order will be formally revoked,
as required by the terms of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 Section 15(2).
Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted using other junctions on the M27 and by using the A27.
The temporary closures, speed limits, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
