Kirklees District - Residents Permit Parking Areas
What is happening?
KIRKLEES COUNCIL
(TRAFFIC REGULATION) (NO 18) ORDER 2023 RESIDENTS PERMIT PARKING AREAS – KIRKLEES
The Council of the Borough of Kirklees has made the above named Order under their powers in the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which, as it affects lengths of road throughout the Kirklees district will be to amend the existing administration of the residents’ permit parking schemes by:-
1. Making all permits annual, insofar as all permits will have an expiry date of 12 months after issue and permit holders will be responsible to apply for new ones.
(NB some permits such as the current Annual Open permits for instance are already subject to an annual expiry date).
2. To introduce administration charges or amend the current charge for permits to;
a) £35 per annum per vehicle registered at the address or qualified to park at the address (Residents Permits)
b) £60 per annum per Visitor permit which will be available for use for bona fide visitors’ vehicles. A maximum of 2 Visitor permits per property.
Applicants who are Kirklees Passport holders will qualify for a 30% discount on each of the above permits.
These charges are slightly different to those originally advertised.
3. To amend the existing Traffic Regulation Order so that the Council will introduce “virtual permits” as a means of verifying that a vehicle can legitimately park or wait in a parking place. This will mean that residents and applicants will be able to apply for appropriate permits but rather than receive for display a physical permit, confirmation that a virtual permit has been approved, will negate the requirement to display a physical permit inside the vehicle.
All other aspects of the permit schemes and how they operate on the ground are unaffected.
The Order was made on 21 January 2025 and will take effect on 03 March 2025
