Works are expected to start on, or after, Monday 5 February 2025 and continue for approximately 14 weeks. There will be some full weekend closures (8pm Friday to 6am Monday) starting on or after Friday 28 February 2025.

The following speed restrictions will be applied only to the extent that is necessary for particular works to be undertaken and will only apply at such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs:

The effect of the Order on the A14 will be to—

  1. impose, in both directions, in conjunction with narrow lanes, a speed limit of 40 miles per hour to 50 miles per hour, with no overtaking, on the eastbound and westbound carriageways from Bythorn accommodation bridge to Belton’s Hill overbridge, Spaldwick.

  2. close, alternatively, the A14 -

    • eastbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 13 Thrapston Interchange to the entry slip road at Junction 22 Brampton Interchange, including all entry and exit slip roads, and

    • westbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 22 Brampton Interchange to the entry slip road at Junction 13 Thrapston Interchange, including all entry and exit slip roads.

During the carriageway closures eastbound traffic will be diverted at Junction 9 via the A605, A1(M) southbound at J17 and A1 to re-join the A14 at Brampton Hut Interchange. Non-motorway traffic will follow this diversion but at A1(M) J17 continue via A1139 Fletton Parkway, A1260, A15, B1043 and A1 southbound to re-join the A14 at Brampton Hut Interchange; and vice versa for westbound traffic.

During the slip road closures at J16 local traffic wishing to enter the A14 will be directed to use the B660 and B662 to join the diversion route above. Traffic wishing to exit will continue to the next open junction to exit, then return via the opposite carriageway back to J16 and continue on its way.

During any other slip road closures traffic will be diverted via junctions of the A14 and local roads.

Access to properties from the A14 and from various side roads adjacent to the length of A14 described at 2 above will be restricted at times and local diversion routes will be in place. Access to properties from the A14 will be maintained wherever it is safe to do so.

All laybys adjacent to, and all gaps located within the central reservation of the A14 described at 2 above will be closed for 24 hours daily for the duration of the works.

A vehicle width restriction of 2.1 metres (6’9”) will be imposed in the narrow lanes where they are operational, and at times when narrow lanes are in operation.

The temporary mandatory speed limits (which will not apply to emergency service or special force vehicles), closures (which will not apply to emergency service, traffic officer, works or winter maintenance vehicles) and width restrictions will only apply at such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.

The Order will come into force on 27 January 2025 and may continue in force until the works detailed above have been completed, or for a maximum duration of eighteen months, whichever is the earlier.
