West Bromwich (Multiple Areas) - Various Temporary Traffic Restrictions and Closures
What is happening?
SANDWELL METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Borough Council of Sandwell (Bromford Road, West Bromwich)
(Temporary Road and Footway Closures) Order 2025 intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Bromford Road between the junctions of McKean Road (northern side) and Station Road (southern side). Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via Oldbury Ringway, Birmingham Road, Oldbury Road, Spon Lane South, Kelvin Way, Bromford Lane and vice versa.
Order 2025 also intends to temporarily prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the footway on the north-western side of Bromford Road between the junctions of Fountain Lane (north-eastern side) and Station Road (north-eastern side). A pedestrian diversion route will be signed via the footway on the eastern side of Bromford Road. The maximum duration for the road closure is 18 months but the work is expected to be completed by 02/02/2025 effective from 01/02/2025 (11:30pm - 7:30am). The maximum duration for the footway closure is 6 months but the work is expected to be completed by 09/02/2025 effective from 01/02/2025 (11:30am - 7:30am).
Purpose – to facilitate access for vegetation removal, handrail, and brickwork repairs by National Rail Ltd.
The Borough Council of Sandwell (New Street, Harvills Hawthorn and Bagnall Street, West Bromwich) (Temporary One-Way Road Closures), (Adelaide Avenue, Hill Top, Howard Street, Pikehelve Street, Shaw Street and Tunnel Road, West Bromwich) (Temporary No Right Turn Restrictions) and (Dial Lane, Norbury Road, Peters Street, St Pauls Crescent, Warwick Close, Waterside Street and Wedgewood Avenue, West Bromwich) (Temporary No Left Turn Restrictions) Order 2025 intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along New Street which will be closed one-way in a westerly direction from the junction of Hill Top to Harvills Hawthorn, Harvills Hawthorn which will be closed one-way in a westerly direction from New Street to Bagnall Street and Bagnall Street which will be closed one-way in a westerly direction from Harvills Hawthorn to the roundabout at Danks Way/George Henry Road. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. A traffic diversion route (northerly direction) will be signed via Hill Top, Holloway Bank, Bridge Street, Holyhead Road, Dudley Street and Black Country New Road. A traffic diversion route (southerly direction) will be signed via Hill Top, Black Lake, New Swan Lane and Black Country New Road. The order intends to temporarily prohibit the following vehicle turning movements; Adelaide Avenue, Hill Top and Tunnel Road – New Street (no right turn). Norbury Road
– New Street (no left turn). Dial Lane, Peters Street and Wedgewood Avenue
– Harvills Hawthorn (no left turn). Howard Street and Shaw Street
– Harvills Hawthorn (no right turn). St Pauls Crescent, Warwick Close and Waterside Street
– Bagnall Street (no left turn). Pikehelve Street
– Bagnall Street (no right turn).
The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to be completed by 05/05/2025 effective from 04/02/2025 (24hr).
Purpose – to facilitate access to lay duct for new high voltage service cable by National Grid Electricity Distribution.
The Borough Council of Sandwell (Powke Lane, Rowley Regis)
(Temporary Road Closure) Order 2025 intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Powke Lane which will be closed from the dividing line of property Nos. 66 & 67 to the dividing line of property Nos. 74 & 75. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via High Street, Henderson Way, Archer Way, Horner Way, Halesowen Street, Gorsty Hill Road, Coombs Road, Haden Hill Road, Halesowen Road, Heathfield Way, Highgate Street, Garratts Lane and vice versa. The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to commence and be completed by 02/02/2025 (8am - 4pm). Purpose – to facilitate access for repair works by Severn Trent Water. The Borough Council of Sandwell (Londonderry Lane, Smethwick)
(Temporary Road, Side Roads and Footpath Closure) Order 2025 intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along the following roads and footpath in Smethwick: Londonderry Lane will be closed from its junction with Manor Road to the extended boundary of Nos. 115/117 Londonderry Lane (anticipated dates 03-21/02/2025). A diversion route for traffic will be signed via Manor Road, Bearwood Road, High Street, Coopers Lane, Little Moor Hill, Stony Lane and vice versa. Margaret Gardens will be closed at the point of its junction with Londonderry Lane. No diversion route will be signed as this road is a cul-de-sac (anticipated dates 03-21/02/2025). Francis Road will be closed from its junction with Londonderry Lane to the extended rear fence line of No.266 Londonderry Lane. A diversion route for traffic will be signed via Londonderry Lane, Manor Road, Francis Road and vice versa (anticipated dates 31/03 - 18/04/2025). Awfields Crescent footpath closure (footpath providing access to Nos. 26 - 36 Awefields Crescent) will be closed in its entirety. Pedestrians will be diverted via Awefields Crescent itself (anticipated dates 31/03 - 02/05/2025). The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to be completed by 02/05/2025 effective from 03/02/2025. Purpose – to facilitate gas main replacement works by Cadent Gas Ltd. The Borough Council of Sandwell (Grange Road to Station Road, Cradley Heath)
(Temporary Public Right of Way Closure) Order 2025 intends to temporarily prohibit pedestrians from proceeding via Grange Road to Station Road (public right of way). Pedestrians will be diverted via Grange Road, Waterfall Lane, Station Road and vice versa. Work is expected to be completed by 01/06/2025, effective from 01/02/2025. Purpose – a defective bridge (Wrights Bridge) whereby the current structure is unsafe for public use.

(Temporary One-Way Road Closure), (Wilford Road, West Bromwich)
(Temporary Road Closure), (Sussex Avenue, West Bromwich)
(Temporary No Right Turn Restriction) and (Tiverton Drive, West Bromwich) (Temporary No Right Turn Restriction) Order 2025 intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Church Lane in a westerly direction from the junction of Wilford Road (eastern side) and the dividing line of property Nos. 76/78 Church Lane and Wilford Road at the junction of Church Lane. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via Old Meeting Street, The Expressway, All Saints Way, Heath Lane and Vicarage Road. A further traffic diversion route will be signed via Vicarage Road, Heath Lane, Walsall Road, Lyndhurst Road, Hollyhedge Road, All Saints Way, The Expressway and Old Meeting Street. The order intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from a right turning movement from Sussex Avenue to Church Lane. The order also intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from a right turning movement from Tiverton Drive to Church Lane. The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to be completed by 25/02/2025 effective from 05/02/2025. Purpose – to facilitate access for gas service works by Cadent Gas Ltd.
The Borough Council of Sandwell (High Street & Lodge Road, West Bromwich) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2025 intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along High Street which will be closed for approximately 30 metres in both directions from the junction of Lodge Road (04/02/2025 - 05/02/2025) and Lodge Road which will be closed at the junction of High Street for approximately 20 metres (04/02/2025 - 05/02/2024). Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. A traffic diversion route will be signed for the High Street closure via Dartmouth Street, Oak Lane, Oxford Road, Izons Road, Oak Road, Price Street and vice versa. A traffic diversion route will be signed for the Lodge Road closure via Edward Street, Dartmouth Street, Oak Lane and Oxford Road. A second traffic diversion route will be singed for the Lodge Road closure via Moor Street, Oak Road and Izons Road. The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to be completed by 05/02/2025 effective from 04/02/2025 (24hrs). Purpose – to facilitate access for maintenance works by Customer Solutions Plus on behalf of Severn Trent Water.
