What is happening?

THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL OF STOCKPORT
(KING STREET WEST, STOCKPORT) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport proposes to make an Order not less than 7 days from the date of this Notice under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the effect of which will be to introduce a Temporary Prohibition of Driving at King Street West, Stockport from the junction of Wood Street to the junction of Gradwell Street, whilst traffic signs to that effect are in place on or near the said road. This Order is necessary to allow the dismantling of the tower crane and any other associated works. Pedestrian access will be maintained as well as access. It is anticipated that the maximum duration of the work will be two days. Alternative routes will be provided via: King Street West, Shaw Heath, Mercian Way, Edgeley Road, Stockport Road, Brinksway, Chestergate and King Street West (Diversion 1). Greek Street, Wellington Road South, Wellington Road North, Travis Brow Link Road, King Street West, and vice versa (Diversion 2). King Street West, Wood Street, Brinksway, Stockport Road (HGV to continue on Stockport Road, Roscoe’s Roundabout, Stockport Road then follow on diversion route), Edgeley Road, Mercian Way, Shaw Heath, and King Street West (Diversion 3). This Order is to come into operation on the 15th of February 2025 and will have effect for eighteen months, provided that if all necessary works are completed within a shorter period this Order shall cease to have effect at the end of that shorter period.
