What is happening?

THE EAST RIDING OF YORKSHIRE COUNCIL
(MELBOURNE ROAD, THORNTON (PART))
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF THROUGH
TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has made an Order the
effect of which is to prohibit any person from causing
any vehicle to proceed along part of Melbourne Road,
Thornton between the National Grid site entrance
and the junction of Market Bridge Lane Access Road.
The reason for the closure is to enable the proposed
Northern Powergrid pole replacement works, to be
carried out and completed in a manner consistent with
ensuring the safety of the public. It is anticipated that
the works will be completed within four days.
The alternative route for traffic affected by the Order
is via Melbourne Road, Main Street, Hodsow Lane
Roundabout, York Road, Sutton Lane, The Street,
Sandhill Lane, Common Lane, Hagg Lane, Road from
Hagg Lane to General Lane, General Lane, Ash Lane,
Seaton Common Lane, Everingham Road and
Common Road.
The road will be closed to all traffic, but access will be
maintained for residents and emergency vehicles up
to the point of closure, but not through it, except for
pedestrians.
The Order will commence 27 January 2025 and
continue in force for a period not exceeding eighteen
months or until the works which it is proposed to
carry out have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
