M45 Motorway & A45 Trunk Road (Dunsmore Heath to M1 Junction 17) - Temporary Traffic Restrictions

What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTIONS 14(1)(a) and (7)
AND PARAGRAPH 27(1) OF SCHEDULE 9
THE M45 MOTORWAY AND A45 TRUNK ROAD (DUNSMORE HEATH
TO M1 JUNCTION 17) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION
OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 9346363) has revoked an existing Order and made a new Order on the M45 Motorway and the A45 Trunk Road, in the Counties of Warwickshire and West Northamptonshire, to enable junction widening and realigning work to be carried out.

The effect of the Order will be to, at different times, –

(1)  impose a speed restriction of 50 miles per hour on –

(a)  the eastbound carriageway of the M45 from its roundabout junction with the B4429 and the A45 Coventry Road (Thurlaston Roundabout), at Thurlaston, to the tip of the nosing at its junction with the exit slip road leading to its roundabout junction with the B4429 and A45 Daventry Road, at Dunchurch; including that slip road; and

(b)  the westbound carriageway of the M45 from a point 100 metres northwest of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the link road leading from the A45 Daventry Road, at Dunchurch, to its junction with Thurlaston Roundabout;

(2)  impose a speed restriction of 40 miles per hour on –

(a)  the eastbound carriageway of the A45 from a point 100 metres southeast of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the exit slip road leading to the A4071, at Dunsmore Heath, to its junction with Thurlaston roundabout;

(b)  the circulatory carriageway of Thurlaston Roundabout; and

(c)  the westbound carriageway of the A45 from its junction with Thurlaston Roundabout, to its junction with the road leading to and from Draycote Hotel, at Dunsmore Heath;

(3)  close –

(a)  the eastbound carriageway of the A45 from its junction with the exit slip road leading to the A4071, at Dunsmore Heath, to its junction with Thurlaston roundabout;

(b)  the westbound carriageway of the A45 from its junction with Thurlaston Roundabout, to its junction with the road leading to and from Draycote Hotel, at Dunsmore Heath;

(c)  the circulatory carriageway of Thurlaston Roundabout;

(d)  the eastbound carriageway of the M45 from its junction with Thurlaston Roundabout, to its junction with the M1 at Junction 17;

(e)  the westbound carriageway of the M45 from its junction with the M1 at Junction 17, to its junction with Thurlaston Roundabout;

(f)  the exit slip road leading from the eastbound carriageway of the M45, to its roundabout junction with the B4429 and A45 Daventry Road, at Dunchurch;

(g)  the link road leading to the westbound carriageway from the M45 from Daventry Road, at Dunchurch;

(h)  the laybys situated adjacent to –

(i)   the eastbound carriageway of the A45 approximately 84 metres northwest of the centre point of Thurlaston Interchange; and

(ii) the westbound carriageway of the A45 approximately 236 metres northwest of the centre point of Thurlaston Interchange; and

(i) prohibit vehicles from entering or leaving Thurlaston Interchange at its junction with the B4429.

The work started on Monday 4 November 2024 and is expected to continue for a further twelve months. The closures and prohibition will be carried out mainly overnight between 20:00 hours and 06:00 hours with some full weekend closures from 20:00 hours on Friday to 06:00 hours on Monday. The speed restrictions and layby closures will be in operation from 06:00 hours on Monday 13 January 2025. The Order will come into force on 13 January 2025.

Vehicles being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions, closures and prohibition. Special forces vehicles will be exempt from the speed restrictions and vehicles being used for traffic officer purposes, in connection with the works or for winter maintenance purposes will be exempt from the closures and prohibition.

A diversion route via the A45, the A46, the M6, the M60 and the M1 will be signed.
