York - Multiple Temporary Traffic Restrictions and Road Closures

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 02 January 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4) & (5). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (6), (7), (8), (9), (10), (11) & (12).

(1) STRIPE LANE, SKELTON

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Stripe Lane, Skelton between its junction with the A19 Shipton Road and a location 52 metres south-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 06 January 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 10 January 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A19 Shipton Road, Overton Road.

(2) CONEY STREET, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Coney Street, York between its junctions with Market Street and St Helens Square (closed road) during the period when gas network works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0700hrs on Monday, 06 January 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 14 February 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic in New Street will be reversed to flow in a north-easterly direction during the period of physical closure and the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic flow in Coney Street is suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said road. It is envisaged that the works will be completed in two phases:

  • (i) between the junctions of Market Street and New Street and
  • (ii) between the junctions with New Street and St Helens Square.

An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Parliament Street, Piccadilly, Tower Street, Fishergate, Clifford Street.

(3) LOW PETERGATE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Low Petergate, York between the projected north-western boundaries of property No’s 67 and 83 (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 06 January 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 31 January 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

Additionally, Grape Lane will be restricted to a ‘one way’ flow of traffic in a south-westerly direction and Swinegate will be restricted to a ‘one way’ flow of traffic in a south-easterly direction between its junction with Grape Lane and Back Swinegate. The ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic flow in Low Petergate is suspended between its junctions with Grape Lane and Goodramgate during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said road. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Blake Street, Davygate, Church Street.

(4) NORTH STREET, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Lowther Street, York between its junctions with Lowther Court and Bowling Green Lane (closed road) during the period when water network works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2100hrs on Thursday, 09 January 2025 and ending at 0230hrs on Friday, 10 January 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic flow in Tanner Row between its junctions with North Street and Rougier Street is suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said road. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Tanner Row, George Hudson Street, Micklegate.

(5) LEEMAN ROAD & KINGSLAND TERRACE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Leeman Road & Kingsland Terrace, York (i) on Leeman Road between its junctions with Carlisle Street and Kingsland Terrace and (ii) on Kingsland Terrace between its junctions with Leeman Road and Garfield Terrace (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2100hrs on Friday, 10 January 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Monday, 27 January 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between the following dates and times:

  • 2100hrs on 10/01/2025 until 0600hrs on 13/01/2025;
  • 2100hrs on 17/01/2025 until 0600hrs on 20/01/2025;
  • 2100hrs on 24/01/2025 until 0600hrs on 27/01/2025.

An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Salisbury Road, Garfield Terrace.

(6) MAIN STREET, HESLINGTON

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Main Street, Heslington between the projected south-eastern boundaries of the property named Bank House and property No. 3 Memorial Cottages (closed road) during the period when sewer works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Saturday, 11 January 2025 and ending at 2000hrs on Sunday, 12 January 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Low Lane, School Lane, Field Lane.

(7) MICKLEGATE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Micklegate, York between its junction with Bar Lane and a location 30 metres north-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when water supply works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Sunday, 12 January 2025 and ending at 2000hrs on Sunday, 12 January 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Nunnery Lane, Bishopgate Street, Skeldergate.

(8) FENWICK STREET, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Fenwick Street, York between the projected south-western boundaries of property No’s 13 and 33 (closed road) during the period when sewer works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Sunday, 12 January 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Sunday, 12 January 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access will be maintained for residents throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(9) FISHERGATE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of carriageway on Fishergate, York between its junction with Escrick Street and a location 48 metres south of said junction (closed carriageway) during the period when street lighting works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2100hrs on Monday, 13 January 2025 and ending at 0500hrs on Tuesday, 14 January 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Paragon Street, Barbican Road, Fishergate.

(10) MONKS CROSS DRIVE, YORK

This Order will prohibit pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of footway on the eastern side of Monks Cross Drive, York between locations 10 and 20 metres north of the roundabout controlled junction with Jockey Lane (closed footway) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2200hrs on Monday, 13 January 2025 and ending at 0500hrs on Tuesday, 14 January 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians will be signed during the works period via Monks Cross Drive.

(11) MILL LANE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of northbound carriageway on Mill Lane, York between its junctions with East Parade and Heworth Green (closed carriageway) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 13 January 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Sunday, 19 January 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via East Parade, Heworth Road, Heworth Green.

(12) SOUTH LANE, HAXBY

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on South Lane, Haxby between its junction with York Road and a location 25 metres west of said junction (closed road) during the period when sewer works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Tuesday, 14 January 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Wednesday, 15 January 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic flow in South Lane is suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said road. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Road, The Village.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
