A27 TRUNK ROAD (STANMER) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A27 Trunk Road in the Unitary Authority of the City of Brighton and Hove, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to:-

1. authorise the overnight closure of: -

(a) the eastbound carriageway of the A27 between the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road at Devils Dyke Road Junction (A2038) and the tip of the nosing of the entry slip road at Coldean Lane;

(b) the westbound carriageway of the A27 between the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road at Lewes Road Junction (A270) and the tip of the nosing of the entry slip road at Patcham Interchange (A23); and

(c) all slip roads leading to or from these lengths of carriageway.

2. authorise the 24-hour closure of the following lay-bys: -

(a) adjacent to the westbound carriageway of the A27 between points 140 metres and 395 metres west of the centreline of Stony Mere Way underbridge;

(b) adjacent to the westbound carriageway of the A27 between points 509 metres and 326 metres east of the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road at Patcham Interchange; and

(c) adjacent to the eastbound carriageway of the A27 between points 308 metres and 545 metres east of the tip of the nosing of the entry slip road at Coldean Lane.

3. impose a 24-hour 50mph speed restriction on: -

(a) the eastbound carriageway of the A27 between the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road at Devil's Dyke Interchange and the tip of the nosing of the entry slip road at Coldean Lane;

(b) the westbound carriageway of the A27 between the centreline of Stony Mere Way underbridge and the centreline of the tip of the nosing of the entry slip road at Patcham Interchange (A23); and

(c) all slip roads leading to and from those lengths of carriageway.

4. Impose a width restriction of 3.25 metres in: -

(a) lane 1 and 2 of the eastbound carriageway of the A27 between a point approximately 200 metres from the centreline of Patcham Interchange (A23) overbridge and the centreline of Ditchling Road overbridge; and

(b) lane 2 of the westbound carriageway of the A27 between a point approximately 240 metres east of the centreline of The Drove overbridge and the tip of the nosing of the entry slip road at Patcham Interchange (A23).

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake flooding alleviation works and all associated works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 5 months starting on or after Monday 27th January 2025. The overnight closures

would take place between 20:00 and 06:00 hours (maximum period). Please check National Highways website for further details.

The Order would come into force on 25th January 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.

Through traffic affected by the closures would be strategically diverted using the A270 and the A23 in either direction. The temporary closures, speed restrictions and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
