M27 & M275 Motorways, Portsmouth - Overnight Closures & Traffic Restrictions
What is happening?
M27 AND M275 MOTORWAYS (PORTSMOUTH)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways intends to make an Order on the M27 and the M275 Motorways in the Unitary Authority of the City of Portsmouth, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on, or in the vicinity of, the road.
The effect of the Order would be to:-
1) authorise the overnight closure of: -
a) the northbound carriageway of the M275 between its divergence from the link road leading to the westbound carriageway of the M27 at M27 Junction 12 (M275 /A27/ A3) and its junction with Southampton Road (A27 Marriott Crossroads);;
b) the southbound carriageway of the M275 between its junction with Southampton Road (A27 Marriott Crossroads) and its merge with the link road leading from the eastbound carriageway of the M27 at M27 Junction 12 (M275/A27/A3) ;
c) the link road connecting from the eastbound carriageway of the M27 to the northbound carriageway of the M275 ;
d) the link road connecting from the southbound carriageway of the M275 to the westbound carriageway of the M27;
e) the slip road connecting from the westbound carriageway of the A27 to the southbound carriageway of the M275; and
f) the slip road connecting from the northbound carriageway of the M275 to the westbound carriageway of the A27; and
2) prohibit any vehicle from:-
a) proceeding straight ahead into Southampton Road (A3); or
b) making a right turn into Western Road (A27) ; from any part of the northbound carriageway of the M275 at A27 Marriott Crossroads. These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake traffic signal replacement works on behalf of the City of Portsmouth.
The majority of the work, which is due to commence on Sunday January 26th 2025, would be carried out under temporary traffic light control but there would be closures in phases to install, remove, and adjust the temporary traffic management layout. The overnight closures would be in operation between 21:00 and 05:00 (maximum period). Please consult National Highways’ or the City of Portsmouth website for details.
The Order would come into force on 24th January 2025 and remain so for a maximum of eighteen months, but ceasing when the works are complete.
Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted via other junctions of the M27 or by using the M275, A27 and other local diversions as advised. The diversion in operation would vary according to the closure in force.
The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
