Sandy Lane West - Temporary Restrictions due to Safety Works

Notice of Temporary Traffic Order
Oxford, Sandy Lane West
Prohibition of Through Traffic and Waiting
Date of Order: 20 January 2025
Coming into force: 27 January 2025
This Order is being introduced as part of the safer route to school scheme and involves creation of raised zebra crossing, speed humps, side road entry treatments and footway widening works which are anticipated to be completed 28 March 2025.
- No Waiting – 27 January to 28 March – Blackbird Leys Road to Bampton Close;
- with Blackbird Leys Road and Ledgers Close to facilitate footway works, vegetation removal and installation of traffic signal power in front of the school. Access maintained for business and residents;
- Road Closure with No Vehicle Access – between junctions with Blackbird Leys Road and Ledgers Close – 24 to 28 March. This will operate between 19.00 and 06.00 hours, with access maintained for business and residents.
- Night time closures between 19.00-06.00 hours to facilitate construction of speed reduction humps in Sandy Lane West: nighttime closures with NO VEHICLE ACCESS to (i) Broadfields 25th March, (ii) Spring Lane 26th March, and (iii) Broadfields 27th March.
The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding or waiting in sections of Sandy Lane West including the junctions of Costar Close, Broadfields and Spring Lane.
Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force.
Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of the road.
The alternative route for traffic is Westbound via – the Eastern bypass, A4158 Rose Hill, B4495 Church Cowley Road, Barns Road, Blackbird Leys Road and/or Eastbound via – Blackbird Leys Road, B4495 Between Towns Road, B480 Garsington Road, Eastern bypass. Access for cyclists will be maintained via existing footway. Cyclists will be required to dismount and use the footway.
This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. (Ref: T15049/AC)
