Newcastle Upon Tyne - Prohibit All Motor Vehicles

What is happening?

CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE (NEWCASTLE QUAYSIDE 10K EVENT) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne intend, not less than seven days from the date of this Notice, to make an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and has received consent from the Secretary of State for Transport to make such an Order.

2. The effect of the Order is to:-

(a) prohibit all motor vehicles from proceeding on the lengths of highway set out in Schedule 1 to this Notice;

(b) prohibit all motor vehicles from waiting and loading / unloading on the lengths of highway set out in Schedule 2 to this Notice.

3. The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on site as required.

4. Exemptions will be provided for -

(a) police, fire brigade or ambulance vehicles on emergency call, and

(b) vehicles being used for, or in connection with, the said Event.

5. The Order is required to facilitate the holding of the Newcastle Quayside 10K Event 2025 (“the Event”) and to reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the Event. The Order is required to allow the Event to be carried out safely on or near the highway and to ensure the health and safety of the general public.

6. The Order will come into operation on 18 January 2025 for 1 day and will continue as and when relevant traffic signs are displayed.

SCHEDULE 1 (ROAD CLOSURES)

(i) B1600 - between its junctions with A186 City Road and Sandgate,

(ii) B1600 Quayside - from its junction with Sandgate to Sandhill,

(iii) B1600 Sandhill - for its entire length,

(iv) B1600 Close - for its entire length,

(v) B1600 Forth Banks - from its junction with Skinnerburn Road north westwards for 55 metres,

(vi) Skinnerburn Road - from its junction with B1600 Forth Banks to Monarch Road,

(vii) Monarch Road - from its junction with Skinnerburn Road to Amethyst Road,

(viii) Shot Factory Lane - from its junction with Pottery Lane to Skinnerburn Road,
and
(ix) Water Street - from Monarch Road northwards for 80 metres.

SCHEDULE 2
(NO WAITING OR LOADING/UNLOADING AT ANY TIME)
(i) Skinnerburn Road - from B1600 Forth Banks to Shot Factory Lane.
