A38 Trunk Road - Temporary Prohibition of Traffic For Maintenance And Improvement Works
What is happening?

THE A38 TRUNK ROAD (PLYMOUTH TO EXETER)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) has made an Order on the A38 trunk road in the County of Devon to enable maintenance and improvement works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to take place overnight (19.00 to 06.00) during a period starting on 1 January 2025 and ending on 23 December 2025.
The effect of the Order will be to impose restrictions and prohibitions on the following lengths of carriageway:
(a) authorise the closure of:
(i) the A38 between Plymouth and Exeter;
(ii) all slip and link roads leading to and from the lengths of carriageway described;
(iii) all lay-bys, service roads and bus stops.
During any road closures traffic will be diverted via alternative junctions of the A38 Trunk Road and local roads. These diversions will be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the area.

The duration of each restriction or prohibition will vary depending on the nature of the work being undertaken on each occasion.
The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, or winter maintenance vehicles. The restrictions and prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.
The Order will come into force on 30 December 2024 and will expire on 23 December 2025.
